Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift
We use RedHat OpenShift to manage our clusters, AWS resources, and containers.
Pros
- Easy deployment of operators.
- Cluster updates.
- Dashboard/GUI.
Cons
- No built-in scheduler for hibernating clusters.
- Learning resources are hard to access.
- Allowed our team to rapidly adopt kubernetes.
- Expensive and draining on the budget.
- Increased difficulty onboarding new users, because of unfamiliarity with OpenShift.
OpenShift has increased our organization's ability to develop, deliver, and maintain applications for the most part. However, there are some areas in which we feel limited because of the severely increased difficulty of having all of our resources and applications on OpenShift. Solutions that would have been obvious to us with another implementation are now significantly more complex.
From what I remember of Pivotal Cloud Foundry/Tanzu, OpenShift has a lot more features. Ultimately, our team went with OpenShift. After trialing multiple providers, we decided OpenShift was the best experience. We also had more confidence in Red Hat.
