Overall Satisfaction with Rival IQ

It was used mainly on the brand strategy team for competitive research and benchmarking on social foundation projects, as well as for reporting and metrics on an ongoing monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. Mainly, it was used for its social media analytics capabilities and not as much for the non-social features.

  • Positive: allowed us to better perform competitive analyses and really helped us make better social strategy foundation projects
  • Positive: consistent visualizations across social networks makes for cleaner presentations
  • Negative: didn't really help us at all when trying to calculate Twitter/Instagram/overall social engagement rates
They were really flexible with a project that needed us to plug in a TON more competitors than an existing plan would have been feasible for; we enjoyed the tool enough to keep them on afterward, and even renewed even a year later. They appeared to do competitive analysis much better than all the competitors, and the visuals were a big improvement over the others, which we had already used.
It is great for competitive analysis if that's an ongoing need, and the upside of how it calculates engagement rate is that it's consistent across competitors (even if I think the methodology is flawed). We really only used the competitive data up front, and then sparingly afterward. If you want true impressions/engagement rate for Twitter, Instagram, and in some cases Facebook, then this is not as good.
