Sage Accounting

Overall Satisfaction with Sage Accounting

As a freelance bookkeeper dealing with multiple companies, Sage is by far the best program. I've heard other bookkeepers describe Sage as the ideal product for accounting professionals. It gives me the scope I need to provide the accounting services for my clients that they rely on.

Pros

  • financial statements, one period or comparable
  • payables and receivables reports
  • CRA reports

Cons

  • I really don't like the tax reports. Why are they spread over so many columns when it is not necessary?
  • The same with the project reports. I have to spend too much time formatting them manually.
  • payroll is a breeze with Sage with the deduction calculator built in
  • reporting is flexible with the ability to change date ranges
Again, Sage is made for accounting professionals, as compared to some of the other programs that are created more for the average business owner. This makes Sage less open to errors being made by users who don't really know what they are doing when it comes to bookkeeping.

Sage is well suited for an accountant who works with clients who prefer to be hands-off, and simply hand everything over to their bookkeeper/accountant. One has to have knowledge of accounting in order to be able to use Sage to its full potential, as Sage is definitely made for those who are comfortable with accounting terms and practices.
