SAP HANA Cloud
Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA Cloud
We use SAP HANA Cloud as our central data platform for real-time reporting, data integration, and application extensions. It solves issues of data silos, slow analytics, and limited on-prem scalability. Our scope includes data modeling, virtualization, replication, and supporting migration to S/4HANA, enabling faster insights, unified data access, and scalable cloud-based operations.
Pros
- Real-time data replication and reporting
- High-performance analytical modeling
Cons
- Complex setup for data integration (SDI/SDQ/DP Agent)
- Slow or complex transport and lifecycle management
- Positive Impact: Real-time analytics and faster reporting improved decision-making and reduced operational delays.
- Lower on-prem maintenance and scalable cloud resources increased productivity for development and analytics teams.
We evaluated platforms such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery and Amazon Redshift. SAP HANA Cloud stood out for its real-time in-memory performance, strong integration with SAP applications, unified transactional and analytical capabilities, and enterprise-grade governance. These advantages made it the best fit for our SAP-centric landscape

SAP HANA Cloud Feature Ratings
Using SAP HANA Cloud
1000 - The users typically come from the following functions:
IT / SAP Basis Team – database administration, provisioning, monitoring
Analytics / BI Team – building dashboards, reports, models
Application Development Team – integrating HANA Cloud with apps, extensions
SAP Functional Consultants – using data models for S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, etc.
Data Engineering / Data Management – ETL, data pipelines, quality, governance
Business Users (limited) – accessing analytical stories, KPI dashboards
100 - We have about 3–6 in-house people supporting SAP HANA Cloud on an ongoing basis.
They include:
HANA Cloud Admin/Basis for provisioning, monitoring, security
Data Engineers/Modelers for pipelines and calculation views
Developers/Integration Specialists for apps and APIs
(Optional) BI Analyst for reporting
Shared Cloud/Security Architect for governance and access control
- Centralized Data Platform
- SAP HANA Cloud serves as a single, scalable data foundation for analytics, reporting, and application workloads across SAP and non-SAP systems
- Real-Time Analytics & Dashboards
- We use HANA Cloud to power real-time dashboards, KPI monitoring, and operational reporting—mainly through calculation views consumed by SAP Analytics Cloud / BI tools
- Data Integration & Consolidation
- It integrates data from S/4HANA, legacy systems, and third-party apps, enabling unified data models and reducing data duplication.
- Automated Data Quality Monitoring
- We built custom SQLScript routines and alerts in HANA Cloud to automatically detect data mismatches, missing records, and process delays across systems—reducing manual checks.
- Lightweight Microservices Using HANA Cloud as the Engine
- Our developers created microservices and serverless-style APIs directly on top of HANA Cloud using CAP/OData, enabling rapid feature deployment without needing a full backend stack
- Predictive Scoring Models Integrated into Business Apps
- Data scientists used HANA Cloud’s SQL-based predictive capabilities to embed real-time scoring (forecast, risk, churn) into operational applications
- Real-Time Event Processing
- Integrate event/streaming platforms to support real-time triggers, such as automated replenishment, fraud alerts, or equipment issue detection.
- More Application Extensions on BTP
- Develop additional custom apps (CAP/Node/Java) using HANA Cloud as the backend to replace Excel-heavy manual processes.
- Self-Service Analytics for Business Users
- Create more role-based data marts that allow non-technical users to run their own analytics without IT dependency.
Evaluating SAP HANA Cloud and Competitors
Yes - answer)
We replaced our on-premise SAP HANA database and parts of our legacy data warehouse environment. The move to SAP HANA Cloud helped us reduce infrastructure costs, improve scalability, and enable real-time analytics. We wanted a fully managed, cloud-native platform that integrates seamlessly with SAP applications and supports future digital initiatives.

- Cloud Solutions
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
The most important factor was integration with our existing SAP systems. SAP HANA Cloud connects seamlessly with S/4HANA, SAP Analytics Cloud, and SAP BTP, reducing complexity and ensuring consistent, real-time data flows. This tight native integration allowed us to modernize our data landscape without rebuilding interfaces or disrupting core business processes.
If we had to do it again, we would place more emphasis on hands-on pilots and performance benchmarking across real workloads. We would involve business users earlier to validate reporting and integration needs, and compare long-term cost models more closely. This would give a more complete view before final selection.
