We use SAP HANA Express in the following ways:
1.) As a sandbox to prove the value provided by the underlying technology to answer real business questions and solve business problems.
2.) SAP HANA express was used to prove the business case and lead to the purchase of a full-scale HANA appliance.

Pros
- Very fast query response times due to in-memory architecture
- Virtualized data architecture via connectivity to other databases and data sources
- Column store and Efficient compression of data
- Integration with R server from the database
Cons
- No first line support from SAP
- Data Analysts are able to complete their analysis much faster (4 hours vs 4 - 5 days)
- Resource intensive summarization processes could be decommissioned as the data can be stored at the lowest grain. This saves on resource/licensing costs and gives the business near real-time access to their data.
- oracle express, sql server developer edition and Cloudera
SAP HANA Express is free for production use with most of the features available in the full HANA tech stack. It also provided better integration with the SAP Bussiness Objects suite than the others.
