Overall Satisfaction with Sauce Labs

I've been using Sauce Labs across multiple platforms for several years. We made the decision as an organization to use Sauce because of the wide variety of browser and device combinations, as well as the ease of use. Integrating Sauce with our CI pipeline allows us to rapidly test a variety of combinations, and return results to developers in minutes. This used to be a wholly manual effort that could take days or weeks depending on the scope of changes. Appium + Sauce Labs have made this much easier.

We occasionally run into the same issues that people will note for this and other solutions. But when faced with challenges the support and feedback is stellar. We're looking forward to doing more testing across devices as we expand our test coverage.
  • A large variety of browser and device combinations allows for broader test coverage.
  • Adopting new technologies like XCUITest and Espresso allow for the use of industry standard tools in test automation
  • Massive parallelization helps to reduce test run times.
  • SSH tunneling stability can cause test failures
  • Having access to browsers and devices in beta would be ideal
  • More native testing support would be a big win.
  • Improve quality by increasing browser/OS/device coverage
We make use of a jenkins plugin and multi jobs to run against different browser and OS combos.
We had a full review of the Sauce Labs solution performed by our Security organization prior to acquisition of this tool. We have no outstanding security concerns with our current implementation.
When we have a defect, or a device that needs to be tested. We can easily spin that up on sauce, and run our tests against it. This allows us to test on older devices that might not be available in a real device cloud.
When you build it yourself, not only do you have an up front expense to build out a grid of devices or vm's, but you also assume maintenance costs. When you buy, you get a rapid setup, and customer support without the overhead of establishing your test lab. The number of devices you'd have to purchase to mirror the sauce offering is cost prohibitive for the majority of organizations. That's before adding in maintenance costs.
We built out a monstrosity that barely achieved our goals, and ran on our local network before Sauce. WE also frequently investigate other vendors to make sure we are getting the best product. We have yet to evaluate a tool that meets the same level of quality we receive from Sauce.
Sauce is great for testing web and mobile applications. It would be awesome if we could do more native testing.
