Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use SCALE Computing HC3 at several of our clients. It allows us to combine virtualization and storage. This saves the client on licensing costs. It also allows them to combine their back-end storage and virtualization. It also allows them to have a cost-effective disaster recovery solution offsite.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The user interface is well laid out and easy to use.
Replication is easy to set up and works particularly well.
Recovering VMs that that been replicated to storage is quick and easy.

Cons

Currently, there is not a straightforward way to add disk space to virtual machines.
With the latest release, we are having some issues with increased replication traffic to our branch DR site.

Support Rating

Support is one of the strongest suits of Scale Computing. You can always reach a live person to work on any issues or answer any questions you may have. They are available 24-7 and have a knowledgeable staff. They are also easy to work with and explain things in a way that anyone can understand.

Return on Investment

Positive: Less recurring costs associated with virtualization.
Positive: Longer life cycle for fully integrated solution of storage and virtualization.
Positive: Low cost support to upkeep system.

Alternatives Considered

Nimble Storage

We choose Scale HC3 in situations where cost is the main issue. Nimble Storage does not have a fully converged solution, so there are additional costs associated with virtual licenses. Having an integrated solution is key for some of our smaller clients, and Scale Computing fits the bill.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for smaller clients who would like to save money on storage and virtualization costs. Provides disaster recovery, virtualization, and back-end storage at a fraction of the cost of other solutions. It is easy to set up and manage. Customer support is top notch and always available. Less appropriate for enterprise or larger customers needing more functionality.
