Overall Satisfaction with Sigma Computing

I utilize Sigma to visualize datasets that I have curated in Snowflake. Sigma allows us to identify issues within our products and services to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Allows end users to easily dive into the data without having direct access to the table in our database management software.
  • Can easily turnaround dashboards that are detailed and visually pleasing.
  • Sigma is intuitive and as new features are rolled out it is easy to adopt and incorporate them into new and existing dashboards.
  • Improved period over period functionality within the KPI Visual that would allow me to compare one year to another without including all years in the visual. I.E. the primary value is 2022 and the comparison line is 2021.
  • Greater ability to customize aspects of different visuals such as color, font and font size.
  • The ability for certain elements or blocks of elements to move as one scrolls down the page. I.E. I would enjoy the ability to create a set of filter elements along one side of the dashboard that scrolls with the user as the user scrolls down the page to view various visuals.
  • Improved self service for business users.
  • Reduced turnaround time for dashboard creation.
Sigma has allowed me to quickly spin up accurate and detailed dashboards. These dashboards are intuitive and allow non-technical end users to easily digest and manipulate complex datasets. Prior to Sigma, the turn around time between conception and publication took upwards of 2 months but with Sigma it has gone down to upwards of 2 weeks without compromising the flexibility or detail held within a dashboard. Furthermore, Sigma allows for much larger datasets to be utilized without having extensive load times.
Sigma allows for datasets to be quickly and easily ported from our database management software, Snowflake. In other words, a sample dataset can easily be published in Snowflake and copied to Sigma for small scale, adhoc analysis that needs to be performed quickly. Alternatively, our team can also choose to more thoroughly vet and automate a dataset to refresh in Sigma on whatever cadence we choose if we know ongoing analysis and monitoring is required. In other words, Sigma allows us to handle all relevant use cases for data analysis that we typically encounter.
I have found that Tableau can be used to create a greater variety of custom and complex visuals, though these visuals are far more difficult to create in a quick turnaround. While Sigma may be more limited in terms of what types of visuals can be create or how customized they can be, Sigma excels in its ability to handle larger, more complex datasets. In other words, Tableau often requires a custom dataset that lacks certain details, while Sigma does not.
