Overall Satisfaction with Sketch
Our company offers a full suite of digital marketing and web design, so our prototyping needs to run the gamut from quick mockups to full-scale, team-wide redesigns. Sketch allows us to manage both ends of the spectrum and everything in between, ensuring consistency and collaboration between team members. Its build-in tools are extremely powerful but it is a lightweight program that is extremely customizable, which makes it an easy transition for onboarding periods.
Pros
- Universal shared assets (colors, styles, components, etc.)
- Integration with client-ready presentation tools, like InVision.
- Exporting management for transition to development teams.
Cons
- Sketch is Mac-only, no PC support.
- No support for movement or animation/video assets.
- Moving vector assets between Adobe and Sketch not ideal.
- Integration options with client-ready presentation tools.
- Lightweight and simple to get started/use.
- Easy to manage universal styling assets.
- Collaboration tools allow better team integration.
- Handoff from design to development, if programmers use PC, can be difficult.
- Easier setup allows prototyping to begin faster.
Sketch's approachable UI allowed those using outdated technologies to transition efficiently. Among its peers, Sketch performs comparably with most prototyping tools. It falls behind compared to those that can better handle movement, like InVision Studio, which combines animation and prototyping into a single platform. However, these types of programs have a steep learning curve, whereas Sketch is approachable immediately.
