Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Pingdom

Our public facing connections including B2B and web portals are all monitored with latency monitors and realtime user simulations on our most critical customer facing webapps. Knowing our edge performance and uptime is invaluable for giving us ease of mind and allowing us to focus on improvements while getting instant feedback.
  • Ping latency from around the globe or region specific
  • Real time user simulations allowing deep analysis of performance and experience
  • Integrates wonderfully with the rest of the Solarwinds Platform to provide incredibly detailed transaction logs from end to end.
  • Integration of pingdom into Solarwinds platform is prone to disruptive changes where existing api templates are replaced without retaining function.
  • Integration of payment is still prone to issues given pingdom prefers credit card payment vs standard invoice approach used by enterprise orgs. 3rd year of repeated issues due to this during renewal.
  • Being able to show developers that performative changes are working in the wild saves immense amounts of time fixing external user complaints.
  • Seeing where in a end user app transaction a failure is occuring via pingdom user simulation testing means eliminating most of the possible causes without a bit of work.
We use a mixture of atlassian products and chose to use this at the beginning of 2020 when our org switched to full remote work posture. While it was nice having integration with opsgenie and our jira ticketing system it did not provide quite the mixture of flexibility and usability we needed. Between limits on API calls and a less than perfect documentation experience the choice to instead choose Pingdom and it's vastly deeper and more flexible tools to give us the data we needed.
As the acquisition and internalizing has gone on there have been hiccups, confusions, and in the case of billing some unwelcome stubborn insistence that down is up. Overwhelming majority of the experience is amazing and account reps are fantastic at bypassing some of the more curmudgeonly billing folks attitudes. Typically there are more growing and adjustment pains post acquisition. Pingdom has gone above and beyond ensuring that doesn't impact users.

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm), SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager (NCM), SolarWinds Log Analyzer (LA)
In most cases if you have public facing portals or sites this will be a major boon to your developers. Knowing how long response times are for your website is the difference between knowing what to fix and taking stabs in the dark to try and increase performance to your end users. Pingdom excels at this and allows fantastic warnings to be set and updated via mobile app.
Even if you don't have public facing portals and sites that customers need to utilize it can still provide immense benefit to external connection points for vpn, or citrix/horizon portals used by employees.
