Overall Satisfaction with Solarwinds Storage Resource Monitor
We have a wide variety of Dell SANS across our estate, ranging from Dell EqualLogics, Compellents and MD (FC and iSCSI) shelves. We recently purchased the SRM module for Orion to integrate with Solarwinds DPA and NPM. Its made a huge difference in terms of visibility and linking up with performance issues from storage.
- Granular visibility of IOPS and IO.
- Capacity Planning.
- The ability to link storage to databases through Orion DPA.
- Alerting and Reporting.
- Issues getting SMI working correctly to monitor Compellents through SRM.
- The ability to break down alerts to a more granular level.
- Before we purchased SRM, we have very little visibility of the performance of our disks, which would lead to issues
- Single pane of glass dashboards allow us to spot issues quickly
- Capacity forecasts allow us to also tackle storage issues before we hit a point of no return
SRM is a standout against all of the competitors really. If you own Orion, then this is a must-have module to integrate, especially with DPA, if you also have the module. Out of the box, it is a fantastic product. Whereas a product like Nagios requires development work to get it even remotely close to SRM. PRTG is cluttered and messy and OpsManager functionality isn't even on the same level.
