Simple, quick payroll for the little guys
Overall Satisfaction with Square Payroll
When setting up e-commerce platforms and retail payment platforms, Square payroll is an integral part of the whole package offered by Square that allows me to deploy solutions for small businesses very quickly. We recommend it to our current users of Square POS and online payments users, as well as recommend it as a benefit for users looking for a new payments/online commerce solution. It's low cost and easy to understand, making it a hard to beat solution.
Pros
- 1099 contractor payments are easy, and they provide you with the IRS filing as part of the service.
- Direct deposit/debit from your already connected account to the employee.
- Reporting and management features are simple yet inclusive.
- Low cost compared to alternative solutions.
Cons
- More reporting options online. Downloading export is cumbersome.
- Speedier deposits. 4 day turn around is a problem sometimes.
- Improve W-2 process, explanations.
- Lessened accounting fees.
- Improved payroll process. Reliability.
- Adds the the overall ROI of using Square.
- ADP and QuickBooks Payroll
Cheaper and easier to implement Square payroll versus the competition. Accessible to the small business. Doesn't have a learning curve. Quick deployment to usage/adoption. The other options don't compare when looked at feature for feature vs. price.

- The pay function is very easy. You select the employee from a list, you pick the pay period and pay. You can do more than one at a time and batch them which is great.
- Setup is fairly quick and painless. You can choose direct debit from the account you already have set-up in Square or you can choose to send paper checks as well.
- Your employees get a log in to see their paystubs which are automatically generated. No more manual printing!
- While not difficult, setting up the initial w-2 payments can be a bit daunting. Understanding the taxes is the big one.
- Downloaded reporting could be better.
