Overall Satisfaction with The Okta Identity Cloud

Okta is enabling us to transition from our on-premise AD directory/identity-centric approach to a cloud-based IDP. Okta is mastered from our AD and allows us to give single sign-on and adaptive MFA to all our users. We use these authentication methods both with on-premise workloads on managed computers as well as enabling people to access certain cloud-based workloads from unmanaged (personal) machines. We can centralize our identity management and give our users the same sign-on experience across numerous systems. The plan is to integrate all auth with Okta over time.
  • Enable AD driven identity to modern cloud apps
  • Easy SSO and MFA experience for users
  • 100% availability
  • More customization in the end user experience.
  • More integration with InTune for managed devices and policies.
  • Customer success team helping check health and usage cases.
  • We have addressed a major risk with MFA/SSO on the majority of our apps very quickly - 2-3 months to implement completely.
  • Added security without adding very much friction to end user.
  • After a year or less Okta is a main part of our zero trust initiative.
We chose Okta specifically because it was neutral and dedicated to identity. It works with everything from Microsoft, Google, AWS, and anything you think of without any limitations (unless they are from the far-end vendor). This allows us to have a competitive advantage and choose the platforms we want for our associate and customer experiences without any vendor ecosystem lock-in.
Okta's pre-sales team was highly knowledgable and engaged in positioning the product. Their customer success process is a little weak as we rarely hear from our Okta team. They only seem to engage around renewal times. We are satisfied with the product, but we consider this to be something we have to learn to leverage ourselves with help from VARs, MSSPs, and Partners.
We rely on this uptime and have not experienced any Okta cloud outages since implementation. This is a requirement as strong authentication is something that cannot be bypassed in our Zero Trust stack.

Okta had competitive pricing, high ease of use, and a short time to implement. They also have a strong and active partner community which also aids in quick adaption. The technical capabilities of this space are leaning more and more toward standards shared by all, but Okta has a very strong mix of ease of use and sophisticated capabilities. It's the best choice in my opinion.
Okta is not strongly suited for local-only AD mastered environments with no plans to use cloud or SaaS apps. Okta is best suited for hybrid environments that are trending towards cloud and SaaS apps and may eventually be majority cloud. Okta is not well suited if you are looking to do SSO or MFA on local Windows desktops (you can accomplish this with 3rd party add-ons).
