Overall Satisfaction with Tricentis Tosca

For about two years, my team used Tricentis Tosca primarily for automating both API and front-end tests for our B2B and B2C web shop applications. While it was central to our testing efforts on these platforms, we occasionally faced challenges finding clear solutions in the documentation or getting timely support solely through the community forums.

Pros

  • Easier to use in comparison with coded Automation (e.g. Java + Selenium)
  • Easy to reuse components
  • Handles API tests pretty fast

Cons

  • Documentation - struggled multiple times with features not explained very well, or not explained at all
  • The only support is on Tricentis Forums, where, sometimes, based on 'luck' - you will open a support case, and wait few days until you get the chance to speak with someone from Tricentis and show case your issue
  • Reduced testing costs
  • Increased automation rates
  • Reduced regression times
  • Faster testing cycles
I'd rate Tricentis Tosca's overall usability around a 6 out of 10. For the web shop applications and APIs I worked on, getting started with standard test cases felt reasonably straightforward, especially initially. However, usability became a bigger issue when tackling highly complex scenarios or needing advanced customizations – that's where implementing tests effectively could become quite challenging and less intuitive.
Tricentis Tosca helped to reduce the need for manual testing, as in, having a Regression suite of tests, helped us to not waste days of testing, and rely on the Regression Suite, but it not reduced the manual testing to zero, as we would first need to manually test a feature, and only afterwards automate it.

Do you think Tricentis Tosca delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Tricentis Tosca's feature set?

Yes

Did Tricentis Tosca live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Tricentis Tosca go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Tricentis Tosca again?

No

I found Tricentis Tosca quite accessible for those starting in automation, especially if they pursue the basic certifications. It handles standard tasks effectively up to a point. However, when attempting more intricate or complex automation scenarios, I experienced that it could sometimes struggle or become difficult to implement reliably. All in all, it can be used for API testing, Front End testing and Mobile as well.
