Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance

Unitrends is being used to back up the VMWare environment that is the backbone of our entire campus. The ease of use on the dashboard allows us to manage backups without investing a lot of personnel resources. This frees us up to concentrate on other critical areas without having to worry whether our backups will be there when we need them.
  • Rehydrating a virtual machine's entire folder structure to to easily find a particular file or set of files
  • Scheduling new backups
  • Integration with the VMWare environment allows us to see all of our virtual machines in a single place in the back up system.
  • Still struggling with setting the schedule/retention periods to get the long term backups that I'm looking for.
  • We have often used it to recovery accidentally deleted files
  • The ease of administration reduces time spent setting up back ups as well as recovering data
We have used BackUp Exec in the past. We also evaluated Veeam. Backup Exec was cumbersome on the administrative side and often would disconnect from network machines. Veeam at the time wasn't a great solution for use with physical machines, so we choose Unitrends for its ease of administration and its ability to connect with both virtual and physical machines.
It has worked very well for us in our VMWare environment. It communicates directly with our VSphere controllers and so gives us visibility to pick and choose the VMs that we want to back up. We can set different schedules and retention periods based on the nature of the chosen VMs.
