Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance is used to back up all our data throughout our organization. It also backs up the severs to bare metal to allow for complete server recovery. It keeps our systems safe in case of a hardware failure, virus attack, etc.
- The appliance can backup our data automatically on a schedule that can be adjusted to to business hours.
- The appliance can backup several weeks worth of data and masters depending on the size of the appliance purchased.
- The appliance can archive the data and be moved off site for even more security.
- It can be archived weekly for a month and then rotated or you can keep a copy of every month for years if you like.
- The external archiving drive holder could be made better.
- It locked up on me one time and I didn't find out about it for a week.
- Some type of alarm would be good if the unit is not working correctly.
- It can be hard to clean up the backup errors from the list.
- It has improved our ability to recover key deleted files from last week or even 6 months ago.
- Would allow us to recover from a server hardware failure by moving to another server or a temporary server.
- It is a lot more reliable than our old tape backup system.
I used to use Britestore from Arcserve which served me well for a long time. The main issue with that software was I had to change the tape or hard drive every day manually. If I was on vacation or out for a day or two the backups probably would not get done. The Unitrends Appliance can be left for weeks and the data will be backed up according to schedule. The Arcseve product was cheaper but not effective enough for our priceless data.
