Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We started using Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to backup our Office 365. Online Exchange, and SharePoint implementations.

Pros and Cons

Once you understand the concepts and terminology it's pretty easy to setup and use.
I like the granularity for Exchange mailboxes
The Veeam University videos are super helpful!!

I'm pretty much an old-school written documentation kind of guy. I found the written documentation lacking in the ease-of-use department, since I'm coming in fresh, having never used Veeam before.

Return on Investment

It's too early for a full assessment, but Veeam will easily save me several thousand dollars per year vs. the cost of a hardware backup appliance, support costs, etc.

Veeam for Microsoft Office 365 Needs Assessment

I've been in IT for over 30 years. One needs to back up EVERYTHING. Always. Period. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 has always been a highly-regarded and recommended product for backups in the virtualization space years.

Usability

I'm still learning the ins and outs of the product. Really happy about the Veeam U video series.

Mercifully, we've not had to do data recovery yet - been using the product less than six months.

Alternatives Considered

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery and Quest Rapid Recovery

I've used both products in-house for several years. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 initially won on price point and I'm getting happier by the week with the user experience.

Support Rating

I'd love to give a better grade here, but the lack of humans to help set it up and my experience with the setup documentation left me more frustrated than I thought necessary. Again, Veeam University videos proved most helpful, even if I had to watch them multiple times and step my way through the process.
