Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We're using it to fulfill the backup requirements for our virtual infrastructure and we support it across a variety of our customers. Without Veeam Backup & Replication, we wouldn't have been able to recover some critical VMs we lost due to a SAN failure at our site which was the core of our business, like our mail and ticketing system. We basically use it only at our core infrastructure at this very moment, but our clients use Veeam products across their ecosystems which we support on a daily basis. It has helped us mitigate a couple lost VMs and even couple VPs laptops.
Pros
- Backup VMs
- Schedule VM Backups across the site
- Restore from archived Datastores
- Lower our TCO with our clients
Cons
- IBM Tape support, we had an issue setting it up and it could be easier
- Scheduling tasks such as replicating to another site without Veeam products
- Veeam has saved us from spending more money on other backup solutions.
- The cost has made us recommend it to all of our clients. The initial investment was something affordable and thus has helped us to keep on course.
Like I mentioned before, we have the product on-premises, running with VMware vSphere. But it has also helped us with Power systems since we are an IBM reseller, which is what we planned. Since I knew the solution from a previous job, the workloads are basic ones, email, file, CRM, ERP, etc.
We currently have an old IBM v5000e SAN and a TS3200 library. With Veeam the integration was transparent. We used to have Tivoli and we couldn't use any of the cloud options to backup our critical information. With Veeam this [problem[ ended, and we can backup to AWS and MS OneDrive without spending a lot of resources and money.
IT and management compliances have been met since we needed a solution that could easily integrate with what was in place already and could take care of the biggest picture need here: budget.
We have supported and used Veeam with our clients, so the solution definitely had an advantage over all of them except Tivoli. But, the [ease of] deployment really got our hearts. Did I mention we spent only 6 hours deploying it, whereas Nakivo took us 2 days to just understand the basics, and Backup Exec didn't even work on the first run?
