Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam for backups, replications, NAS Backups, as well as SureBackups. Ease of access, value for money, as well as peace of mind that the software simply does what it is supposed to do, protect your data.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Backup of data is excellent
  • SureBackups (Testing parts) excellent
  • The only thing I can really "fault" Veeam on is it is a little on the resource-heavy side. BUT for all the capabilities and features, it is really great.

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We protect over 40 different clients in our customer base with Veeam. As some of their current backup software comes up for renewals, we are pushing towards replacing current backup software with Veeam as well. For me, Veeam is truly reliable and trustworthy.
  • With the latest changes in the licensing models, I think Veeam is really in the right space making it even better going forward.
  • With "cloud adoption" and service providers now having the ability to do SPLA models for customers, it is a no-brainer. Preferred option all the time.
Simply put, Veeam is trustworthy. There are so many different features in Veeam that every customer can benefit from. Being a truster advisor for our customers, you always recommend the best possible options to the customer. Data is the SINGLE most important asset that any customer [possesses] and as such you always need the best software to protect your data.
Yes, we have definitely done that, and have been starting to push more and more workloads to backup repositories residing in the cloud.
We have multiple customers that make use of NAS storage for legacy and archived data. This still needs to be protected, and we do that by using Veeam. So much simpler and easier to use.

In the "backup" space, it is excellent When it comes to VMWare and Hyper-V replication, Veeam is the only way to go for me. Automated backup testing. If you have a single Hyper-V host with low memory, then you always have to be mindful due to the SQL instance of Veeam, and the resource utilization (which is not all that high) to always try and allow 6 to 8 GB memory for the Hyper-V base itself.

Using Veeam Backup & Replication

4 - Support Staff to Customers we look after
4 - All is Veeam certified as well as have a good experience with Veeam
  • Backups
  • Replications
  • DR Orchastration
  • SureBackups
  • NAS / File backups
  • From all the backup software we use, Veeam is the only one that can actually work correctly with auto eject scripts. Meaning once you have an "offsite" backup to an external drive, and the job complete, it simply ejects the drive, making it inaccessible from normal windows view once done, adding a good layer of hardening on your backups, incorporating that with backup encryption, it is a win-win
  • SureBakcup testing for customers who requires, adding more compliancy and integrity to the backups.
  • Cloud repositories, eliminating the human aspect completely when it comes to data protection
  • I would like to see our organization implement the O365/M365 backup component to customers as well, especially the customers who has already got Veeam implemented, making it a single pane of glass.
NO Brainer, it simply work.

Evaluating Veeam Backup & Replication and Competitors

Yes - A lot of what I would regard as "legacy" backup software such as Symantec System recovery for one. We have also replaced in certain environments products such as Altaro. (Not that I am running Altaro down at all, this was a business decision our Management made)
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Prior Experience with the Product
Usability, reliability, as well as living up to the re[putation Veeam got,m it is truly one of the market leaders in data protection.
Knowing Veeam, knowing the features and what it does, for me it simply works. So if I had to redo all the changes done in our organization, I would do it sooner.

Veeam Backup & Replication Implementation

The implementation is straightforward and easy to do.
Yes - We rolled it out in-house, and then to our customers.
Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled - Just to ensure that you got sufficient storage available to retain some form of your previous backup systems until you build up decent retention in Veeam.
  • Not really any at all.
