Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 review
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Backups a cloud service to on-premises, where we can keep a local copy that we have control over and retain up to our business' need. The ability to restore lost or corrupt mail that users sometimes lose. To prepare for the event that our tenant was completely lost and we had to restore our entire business mail system.
Pros
- Simple Navigation and Interface
- Compatible with simple storage
- Easy to install and configure
- Simple to maintain and administer
Cons
- Better dashboard for age of items/mailboxes
- Clearer logging to show what has been deleted or pruned
- Positive: The ability to restore accidentally deleted items.
- Positive: Peace of mind that if a user wiped their mailbox and recently deleted, we could restore it from backup.
- Negative: Inability to finely tune retention, potentially leading to legal issues.
We knew that a single copy of our mailboxes and SharePoint data on Microsoft's side was not enough to have peace of mind. Bringing a copy of the data on-premise and having total control over it was a clear benefit. Having used other backup products, as well as other Veeam products, we knew that Veeam focuses on robust features that also include simple management tools. The pricing was a strong factor in wanting to go with the product, but that has increased in recent years.
Fortunately, we have not had many run-ins with having to actually restore lost or corrupt data. The largest one was a user accidentally deleted her entire mailbox and was completely stressed. Being able to have the confidence to calmly assure her that we would be able to restore her mail from a few hours ago was a great feeling to have.
We have not had much experience with restoring in place or to the original location for files, but we have used the export as .pst most frequently. Being able to mount the .pst and grab exactly what we need is a huge timesaver and prevents us from accidentally overriding something that the user may have in their active mailbox.
1. Restore to .PST
We use this feature more than anything else. Not only is this feature easy to use, it is the fastest way to get a file back, while still being able to have the manual control of performing the restore.
2. Consistent Performance
The ability to set the the distribution groups we want to backup and have the product dynamically back them up is a huge win. We essentially only have to log in to manually delete old terminated user mailboxes and to patch the product.

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 rides the line of being overly complex and too restrictive very well. Acronis has far too many components for a small to medium business like us, whereas Arcserve requires interfacing with an unappealing graphical interface. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 gave us a nice application with a single instance to install, nothing more.
