Overall Satisfaction with Viewpoint ProContractor
My company uses Viewpoint ProContractor for its accounting capabilities. It does not use it for estimating or day to day inventory keeping. This product allows us to track all of our subcontracts (Appx 150 projects/year) and all the various line items associated with each project. We use Viewpoint ProContractor for contract invoices for standard projects, sales, and rentals. We also use Viewpoint ProContractor for financial reporting including Work in Process job costing, a project backlog, and monthly/quarterly/annual financials. Viewpoint ProContractor is also used in my organization to finalize payroll, however we do not use the Daily Field Reports available in the Viewpoint ProContractor program itself.
Pros
- Line item capability inside projects
- Ease of equipment setups
- Employee hours and earning reports from a job perspective
Cons
- Overall software development seems to be lacking - I know it is a program under Vista, however I do not believe Viewpoint ProContractor has the support of Viewpoint that it once did
- The adjust contract invoice function can create financial problems with miscalculations if a change occurs from one year to the next .
- Overall the program is very "clickly" and not very user friendly in my opinion. For example all projects must be set up with an underscore rather than a hyphen. Multiple button clicks are needed for something simple. The warnings don't always provide a solution to the error.
- History - If I wanted to see who was last in a project setup and adjusted billing codes on a project there is no way to do so. Although it is not needed frequently it would be helpful if Viewpoint ProContractor had the capability.
- Overall it allowed us to go electronic for certified payroll allowing us to be more accurate in reporting which was a giant win for the company
- It's viewable pay estimates with dates and records of payment are crucial to a company like ours that relies on a general contractor and the state for payment of EADA quantites
- Negatively training is not the easiest for the company and therefore onboarding new employees with no experience with the software is time consuming and difficult.
Previously our company used QuickBooks. We loved the ease of use, however we needed something with a certified payroll module. We have looked at migrating to Vista however the expense is quite large and the support we may or may not receive from Viewpoint is questionable. I say that becuase when Viewpoint stop servicing Viewpoint for Projects it was a very difficult time to even receive a hard drive with all of our documents that were stored within the service.
