Overall Satisfaction with WP Engine
WP Engine is being used by the IT and communications departments. It is our sole web hosting provider. Our main organizational website is hosted there as well as some smaller microsites.
Pros
- They maintain their infrastructure very well. All the core applications are patched including WordPress and now even plugins. The are an excellent managed hosting provider.
- They make it very easy to spin up environments with dev, staging, and production sites.
- They make it easy to scale out your hosting infrastructure when you expect an increase in traffic to your site(s). They utilize CNAME flattening to achieve this. You never have to add an IP address into DNS again.
Cons
- I would like their redirect tool to allow the ability to export and import to other sites within WP Engine.
- It would be great if one day they brought DNS management on to the platform instead of people having to use CloudFlare.
- Increased site speed.
- Helped secure our website.
- The up time is phenomenal.
I used a solution from Rackspace years ago which was just their dedicated server product (not available for selection above so had to choose managed hosting). They pretty much give you shell access to a box and then it's up to you to manage everything yourself. This is obviously different from a managed hosting provider like WP Engine.
