Overall Satisfaction with Yellowfin
Yellowfin BI provides web-based access to data from all performance areas of the university. For example, the portal can be used to retrieve aggregated numbers about students (bachelor, master and doctoral), publications, and external funding. Furthermore, it can create detailed reports that provide a structured overview of contract durations, project budgets and available positions. The system aims to efficiently complete internal and external reporting requirements (e.g. monitoring reports for study and teaching, the delivery of rankings, reports for donors) and to reduce the growing workload for reporting tasks. The availability and usability of the data supports internal and external decision-making, controlling, and the management by university employees. This will significantly strengthen the strategic management of the university on all levels. The portal is available to all employees of the university as self-service BI.
Pros
- Ease of use due to a clear and good structured user interface
- Easy to administrate and to develop new BI content even for personnel without IT background
- Powerful features for collaboration and sharing (social BI)
- Very helpful documentation (wiki), support portal and monthly webinar series
Cons
- More options to include meta data (column description, data annotation, report annotation) for BI self service end users
- The compliance to the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS) is currently not possible
Yellowfin BI has a strong focus on a clear structured and easy to use user interface. Furthermore, the licence model was adequate for a BI system with a lot of end users.
