Trinet is used for payroll, benefits, and HR. Asa a small business, Trinet is a one-stop solution for many of the management functions that are time-consuming for a small business.
  • Wide range of benefits choices
  • Professional support
  • Payroll
  • Employee onboarding
  • Customer Service - the move from an assigned customer rep to Connect 360 has diminished the effectiveness and timeliness of the customer support for SNTC
  • Follow-up and follow-through. Changed banks and notified Trinet two pay cycles ahead of the change. Trinet failed to perform the required checks causing the payroll to fail. Trinet then attempted to bully SNTC for the mistake. When reps finally admitted Trinet failed to perform the correct steps, I asked for SNTC's account to be cleared of black marks. Was not done and bullying continued when asked to direct wire payroll funds for the next payroll. Too many errors by Trinet personnel for one simple bank change.
Best: Consistent on-time job performance supporting my company. The wide range of benefits available to employees is exceptional. Improvement desired: Connect 360, for SNTC, has been a significant decline in customer support. I appreciate that SNTC is a very small fish in the Trinet pond and Connect 360 is more efficient for Trinet. But... SNTC still has seen slower responses to inquiries since the change. I have a current Connect 360 put in about a week ago with no response.

Our organization uses TriNet as our PEO. As a small nonprofit, TriNet provides a platform solution for our payroll and benefits and compliance and policy support. We've utilized TriNet's support through workforce planning, state and federal leave compliance changes, policy builds, benefits enrollment, and remote I9 verification compliance.
  • TriNet has an expansive repository of resources, which is particularly helpful as a small organization.
  • TriNet provides support for a range of HR functions that allow us to have a go-to support option in one location.
  • TriNet utilizes webinars, newsletters, announcements, and other convenient and accessible avenues to stay up-to-date on the often-changing compliance measures, as well as feature announcements, trainings, and updates.
  • TriNet's customer service has always been respectful but nearly all interactions have had a point where there was follow-up promised and not received and where I'm unable to reach anyone or get a response mid-case. It's common that I'll finally get to someone that can help me, only for them to say they'll email me information. When that information is received, it's missing aspects of my question/need, and it takes several emails (and sometimes weeks/months of repeated follow up) to get the rest of the information needed.
  • TriNet's chat support almost always has to transfer me to another team, oftentimes 2-3 times because a representative transferred incorrectly. This is very frustrating and causes me to have to have longer wait times and repeated questions/explanations to get caught up.
TriNet provides valuable PEO support for our small nonprofit organization. With an "HR Department of One" with a nationwide full remote staff, we rely heavily on TriNet's support in payroll services, onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, training (especially for managers and for DEI initiatives), policy, and many other aspects of HR. We have not utilized the add-on services as a small organization, such as their ATS or performance management system.

I use Trinet for multiple purposes, for payroll, for time management and for hiring new employees and on boarding them
  • payroll
  • time management
  • HR
  • The staff does not return call on time
  • the time keeping portal glitches a lot
  • the on boarding seems to complicated for some employees
I like that its a one stop shop and you could do everything under one platform. I believe it is very expensive and they don't seem to want to work with the individuals about their payment concerns

We work with TriNet as our HR system. TriNet makes it easy to stay in compliance when we have employees scattered around the U.S. and different state compliances to be in line with. We also use TriNet to pay our employees as well as capture Time off and Expense reports. The expense reporting is much easier to gather data with and get approvals.
  • Expense Reporting.
  • Compliance.
  • HR Notices.
  • Time Off has been finnicky. Currently, our entire staff shows negative time for sick time accruals.
  • The dashboard can be used in Dark mode, but the accessibility doesn't work in Dark Mode.
  • The UI can be clunky.
Trinet is very well suited to handle a variety of time-consuming HR tasks, making them easier and faster. The Money section works well. The time off section has bugs. Notifications could use some work as there is no way to mark notices as read in the interface and the notification doesn't go away.

We use it for Payroll, benefits management, department of labor compliance, and expense management. For all of these, it covers 100% of our needs in these areas.
  • They offer outstanding rates on health plans and many other benefit plans.
  • Payroll is easy to manage.
  • Customer service is very responsive.
  • Expense management could be improved upon. We use a state bank for credit cards, and we were unable to link our credit card accounts directly. I have a workaround, but it means manually uploading the charges. Also, in this particular area, the support is not the best.
  • Also in expense management, while it has many fields for you to enter information, some of those don't show up on the reports.
TriNet is perfect for a smaller business or nonprofits that can't get competitive rates for health care. I can't really speak to larger businesses as I don't have comparison data, but even when we used a PEO in the past, we still were paying high rates. The savings were almost enough to offset the cost of having a PEO vs just a Payroll service, but our employees appreciate the personal savings as well, as we were able to cover a larger portion of the cost due to the price difference. Specifically, our rates for most of our employees were cut in about half.

  • Selection of Medical Plans

TriNet is great for small employers looking to have benefits of a large employer.

We are a small company with under 50 employees. We use TriNet to manage our employees and conduct payroll. It has upped our game in our ability to stay organized, stay up to date with compliance and make sure that our employees are supported and receiving their full benefits. I primarily focus on payroll and it’s been a game changer.
  • Customer support
  • Time card and payroll cohesion
  • Their app
  • Their time card feature can be a bit glitchy. We’ve had numerous employees struggle with it.
  • Their system isn’t always intuitive. Trying to learn a new skill can be time consuming and it’s not always clear what the next step would be. A directory or learning center for processes would be great.
  • The wing is great but we need more challenges!
Costs can be super high and I’ve had situations where we are being charged a large fee for an issue that could have been resolved with better communication. So I just don’t know if I could recommend this to a smaller company as the over head and associated fees would just not be practical.

TriNet is our PEO/HRIS system. We use TriNet in almost every aspect of our jobs. We have struggled with TriNet in almost every one of these aspects. We have also had to create extensive work around for many of the processes in TriNet. Over all I would say TriNet has added an extensive amount of admin time on to my teams plates. We also feel that we have to constantly audit the system as it seems to fail at odd time in odd ways. For instance, a team member takes vacation, it shows paid in the system, but their taken balance shows 0. Or even though we set the system up upon implementation to not allow team members to go into the negative on their leave balances, after over a year they still do. When we bring it up, there is no good explanation or it is indicated that it must some how be our fault. We also have issues with response time, the understaffed leave team, the seemingly understaffed tax team, the time and attendance platform, the training platform, the reports and analytics platform, etc.
  • Compliance
  • Non integrated time and attendance platform
  • Final pay - term process
  • Reports and analytics
  • Fees, so many fees
  • No job costing for multiple locations
I feel like I already went over those in the previous questions. I do like how compliant TriNet is, though I think that does seem to be rather self-serving as well. In my opinion, TriNet seems to take a blanket approach to compliance which ends up costing our company more money than is necessary.

PEO Partnership with TriNet. Payroll, HR, Workers Comp, Time & Attendance, benefits, Training, labor law compliance, etc, we are under-utilizing the program.
  • Time & Attendance weekly Time tracking & Meal Penalty tracking.
  • LOA management.
  • Payroll
  • Time Off
  • Integration with Accounting GL.
  • Time & Attendance Report that cover more than one pay period.
  • HR Specialist support on special cases and enquiry.

We use TriNet as our PEO with a scope that includes payroll, employee benefits, time-tracking, among other things. The major business problems that I was hoping TriNet would address as we switched from ADP (please note that we have only been with TriNet for approximately seven months) were skyrocketing health care premiums, employee relations issues, issues of implementation, and assistance with ongoing tax issues that were the fault of ADP and not our organization. When we switched, we were happy to find an absolute bevy of healthcare options that were much more appropriate to our needs at better pricing, but the other issues are ongoing.
  • They are very good at compliance, almost problematically so.
  • The open enrollment and benefits renewal processes are excellent.
  • Their employees are very kind and responsive.
  • The portal is often problematic: time-tracking has little to no flexibility; notifications on the dashboard never. go. away.; getting anything updated or implemented can take forever; and there are a lot of things in the payroll process that make absolutely no sense whatsoever (i.e. not being able to verify, even at an approximation, what the pay for an employee is on their final payroll after termination until the payroll has already been approved and processed.)
  • Administrators are entirely unable to make adjustments to employees in the system without strict oversight by TriNet. It is rather absurd considering that there has to be some amount of shared responsibility there.
  • TriNet reps told us what we wanted to hear in getting us to switch to their service. When we finally did switch, there was not nearly enough onboarding, and a few things that we were told would be possible were, in fact, not possible.
I think there is potential for improvement, and I do believe that they take my feedback seriously, which is really important to me. I've used a lot of PEOs, but this experience has been quite frustrating. The portal is much less clunky than we had with ADP, but it is also (ironically) much less user-friendly in my experience. And for quite awhile after we first switched to TriNet, it was difficult to get any help that led to real action.

We use Trinet for our payroll processing, Medical and Dental Benefits, 401K, and HR for assistance. I have been with my company for over 4 years and the company has been using Trinet since 2016. The online processing is simple along with the onboarding of new employees. Of all the payroll companies I have used in other jobs this one is simple and straightforward. They answer questions as they arise. Very professional with their clients. Trinet being a PEO company is best to use as the HR laws are cumbersome and keep changing. They have all the tools we need available to use. They take care of the taxes and reporting. Their reports are simple to use and during PPP they had sample reports to use and enter our information. They keep their clients apprised of new laws or changes for HR or Payroll.
  • Payroll processing
  • Communication via email with their clients
  • payroll reports
  • Benefit process
  • onboarding new hire
  • Vacation and sick leave tracking etc
  • To have some reports readily available like SOC
  • Workers comp reporting to have access in the reports
  • Cobra information if former employees opt-in having that information available in the reports section would help
Their platform is simple to use and user-friendly. Administrators have access to employee info which is good. All reports are in the reports section and you can customize the reports to fit your payroll periods and what you want to see on the reports. They have custom reports you can build your own. I have not tried it yet. It can integrate with your accounting software depending on which one you use. Yet it will not work for all clients if they have more than one Chart of account numbers for their payroll in their accounting system. So having that to work for clients on how they break down their payroll in the system would be helpful, for example, expenses. In payroll, it is entered as 1 number, but that one number in the expense report employees submit tends to be broken down to more than one Chart of Account. So that integration with clients' accounting software would not help.

Trinet is used by our organization to run payroll for approx. 18 employees. I frequently use the Chat for Admin questions about handling new hires, terminations, pay codes, etc. <br>However, the one key concern that employees have is understanding what benefits are available to them for their state. These information on their specific/unique coverage, premiums, and deductibles should be available and easy to access.
  • Convenience of all in one service for payroll, benefits, HR
  • Payroll entry is easy
  • I-9 verification is convenient
  • Lower Pricing
  • Communication on Benefits
Trinet is well suited for our company because it takes control of the compliance issues I would have to manage if I were not using a PEO.
It might be less appropriate if we wanted to save money and have an in house HR representative while using payroll software to process pay.

We use TriNet for our Payroll, HR and Benefits. We are a smaller company, so being able to use TriNet's benefits selection makes it affordable and work for all the employees. TriNet makes the payroll process seamless!! I had an employee tell me the other day "switching to TriNet was the best thing we could have done". So not only do the managers appreciate TriNet and the solutions they offer, but so do the employees.
  • Payroll - Seamless
  • PTO Tracking - Accurate
  • Benefits - Large Selection
  • None at this time
We had an employee that was having a baby, TriNet walked me though the steps needed for Him to take Leave.

We use TriNet for processing payroll and providing benefits to our employees. We also use it for HR functionality. As a very small company with less than 10 employees, TriNet allows us to have the bargaining power of a much larger company and enables us to provide very competitive benefits to our employees. It also allows us to maintain a small team since TriNet can assist in areas where we do not currently have a dedicated team lead - such as for HR.
  • Benefits Administration
  • Assistance with reduction in force and all appropriate state and federal paperwork
  • Ease of processing payroll
  • It is sometimes difficult to find the appropriate report I'd like to run in Workforce Analytics
  • Afterhours support on chat would be very beneficial
TriNet has been a gamechanger for our company. We use TriNet for payroll, benefits, and HR support and it has made things significantly easier for our internal team. Processing payroll is very straight forward and reminders are posted in the platform so there is never a risk of missing the submission. TriNet also engages directly with employees when it is benefits open enrollment time -- our employees then select and register for benefits on their own. The only area I wish we had better support is with after-hours chat support. Some of our team members work outside of the US occasionally, so time zones can be complicated with getting live support.

They are the company who is our workers comp carrier so they are our payroll company and handle all our payroll and employee information.
  • We do not have to do workers comp audits
  • They pay the payroll taxes
  • Letting us get the w2 at the end of the year so we can give them to the employees instead of waiting until January 31 to put them in the mail our employees do not like to wait that long. It is a stupid issue with this company
  • Like today I could not sign on something is wrong and i need to access the site and i can not and there is no one there to help this sucks I have to wait for some to come in at 9:00 am to help me. Just wrong
  • quit with the diversity bull shit
  • i have an awful time entering a new employee into the system sometimes it takes weeks
  • the connect360 is worthless we should have 1 person who knows about trient and us not 50 million people who know nothing
They do my new employee input only it takes at least 5 days before the new employee is entered into the system but lately it was 2 days which is still too long. Our employees do not want others to know the information and wishes i could do the whole employee thing without going through this people.

we primarily use TriNet for payroll, benefits and retirement (401k). it is also our ATS and HIRS. Its great to have a 1 stop shop for everything. The platform isn't as in-depth as we would sometimes like but we work around that. As an example we have to have custom reports built for us rather than us having the ability to log in and create them ourselves.

Overall the support is great but there are some areas we don't use because we have the service in-house
  • state final pay compliance - we have employees in every state and it is nice to be able to rely on the fact that we are always compliant when people leave
  • Leave administration - I love not having to manage employees leaves
  • VOE - I love that we could give away VOE's. Simply scan and send to TriNet
  • a better ATS - the current functionality is very limited. For an organization our size we more "power". I like to be able to run custom reports from the ATS as an example
  • Reporting - there's a stack of standard reports but we need and want custom
  • stop changing the layout. We don't care about the layout its the content that matters. get rid of the turtles or hippos or whatever they are
  • Manager access. Let us give managers access to their employees info without having access to EVERYONE
  • Be honest. If you cant do something, you cant do it. Let us know so we can make other plans and move on
  • "I'll put a ticket in" = this is where your dreams go to fade away. See above
Its tough to say. Would I recommend it to a company of our size, no. Would I recommend it to a small business, maybe 10 - 50 employees, yes.

Theres no workflow. We can have managers initiate a change it has to be done by us... manually... *yawn*

We utilize most of what TriNet has to offer as a PEO: onboarding including I9 management, employee records and changes, payroll, benefits, expenses, multi-state compliance, reports, forms and policies, and terminations. We also utilize 1 of their new offerings through the Enrich reimbursement programs.
For a small non-profit, TriNet really is a great asset in providing not only the platform, but thought partnership around HR, compliance, and people management all around.
  • Customer Service
  • Customization
  • Benefits offerings
  • Antiquated interface
  • Does not support org/company culture
  • Some departments are intentionally impossible to reach
TriNet is a powerhouse for the things it does do: manage employee data and processes. Interactions are very transactional and give the sense of being "by the book"-- they really try to mitigate human error, especially around issues of compliance. When issues arise, customer support is typically easy to reach by chat or phone with low wait times. Rarely, we'll come across an issue that needs to be escalated and those departments are impossible to reach for updates (such as the Leave of Absence processing department. They literally don't have a phone number and only communicate via email and tickets). Payroll is definitely more simplified and easier to manage than other systems I've been in.

What feels missing is a more modern/clean user experience, tech forward integrations, and org culture supporting features that other HRIS and PEO's have. This has lead us to employing a second HRIS for our staff to utilize internally that has a more modern look and feel, more comprehensive hiring portal, org culture supporting elements like celebrations, and capabilities to store and send documents for signature.

PEO plus benefits program, payroll, shared HR responsibilities
  • Benefits portal for employees
  • Payroll module and calendar
  • 401k loan management
  • System can be challenging to navigate for employees with multiple nav options on left and upper areas or subjects are not easily related to what is in their mind; multiple handbooks and similar
  • Customer service has improved in the last year but there is still room for improvement. Some tickets/cases simply take way too long with little communication while open. Best improvement is putting more power in the hands of the front line.
  • Managing unusual circumstances with payroll
TriNet is great for a small organization with a remote workforce. A predominate feature is the depth and breadth of health/dental/vision/life and similar benefits the employees can select from that allows them to pick carriers that are top in their own state. Having PEO partner is helpful in more strenuous human resources issues and its nice to share responsibility for items like COBRA or writing a handbook or similar within a small org and utilize this for outsourcing.

  • employee development / for example, 9 block exercise
  • better open enrollment support at all levels
  • help with celebrations for the employees, for example, birthdays and anniversaries
Even though TriNet has a few weaknesses, I would recommend it without hesitation as a Cost vs. Benefit comparison! Keeping track of employee timecards and vacations is a breeze with TriNet. Our HR staff was helped by the support and overall help TriNet added as an HR package. Do not hesitate to give it a comparison with it's competitors on the market.

It handles payroll and allows us to offer full benefits--very important.
  • Good customers support. You always get to talk to a live person.
  • New website is good.
  • I needed more information on how payroll changes can be made and what minimum pays are in various parts of the country.
  • Allow an easy way to preview the total payroll for the next pay cycle after I have made changes.
It would be nice if the employee limit could be 3 and not 5. It will bring more companies in.

TriNet is great - they are also able to help you set up all the states you're not currently in. Customer services and having 3 points of contact is also very helpful. Great turnaround time with escalations, as well. Very helpful and communicative with all-things Compliance.
  • State registrations
  • Payroll compliance
  • Health Benefits
  • Communication
  • State, federal, etc compliance
  • Customer Service and availability
  • Consultation
  • Referrals out to partners/trusted vendors
  • All of the training and 101 classes you can take
  • Micro-sites
  • Updating knowledge-base center for compliance-related things for new-hires
  • More customized levels of permission
  • Integrating and automating Birthday and Work Anniversary emails (Gusto has this and we really liked it)
  • Integration with Guideline and/or 3rd party vendors
Definitely well-suited for remote companies who are set up in many different states and want to remove the admin burden of registering, paying taxes, reconciling, etc.
Well-suited for small companies who don't have the time or headcount to manage all of the compliance pieces in all of the different states you're in. Also great for someone who transitions or absorbs HR duties, due to all of the classes that you can take.
TriNet is a more long-term solution with scaling in mind.

Not well suited for companies who are in just a couple states.

We moved forward with the decision to use a PEO with our company and were recommended Trinet. In my opinion, from start to finish it was a disaster. In believe the company is so large it is difficult to get a direct answer for anything. We are now several months out of using Trinet and we've discovered Trinet failed to pay our wage withholding taxes for our 1st quarter. In my experience, after weeks of trying to get an answer they are telling us it is not their problem.
  • Nothing
  • Response time
  • Effective management of company information
In my opinion, if you have a smaller company I would not use this company. I believe they are too large and unable to assist companies with simple requests. For example, my employees now need their W2's and are unable to login to the antiquated platform. They have to call and spend over 10 minutes resetting their accounts, and then manually go into the platform to locate their W2s.

We use TriNet for our payroll and benefits in both the US and Canada. Since we are a small organization, TriNet provides us with the ability to provide excellent benefits to our employees which is a valuable recruiting and retention tool. TriNet also provides expertise in payroll related matters.
  • Provides excellent benefits
  • Process complex payroll issues
  • Available for advice on HR related matters
  • I would be nice if TriNet returned to the old model with one point of contact
  • Sometimes when calling in with an ongoing issue although notes are there you need to explain the problem multiple times because different people are picking up the call
TriNet is well suited for smaller organizations as it provides 'buying' power with benefits. If a large organization has a full blown HR department with buying power and staff for each aspect of HR it would be less useful.
