Acronis Cyber Protect vs. Macrium Reflect

If you don't have to manage your client's email and their email archiver Acronis works very well. If you're looking for just a backup service for what's on a particular computer then Acronis is perfect. It is easy to use, so newcomers are not overwhelmed with features.It does not include as robust features as Barracuda and Cloudberry, but it does work well as just a backup.

Macrium Reflect creates synthetic full images for fast recovery in case of disaster. It also works pretty well on creating SQL server database backups. It can send a report of taken backups and failures to get users' attention if backups are being taken. It has a good management interface called Macrium Site Manager that connects to installed agents on different servers and has 1 site management configuration for all site servers.

Acronis Cyber Protect has been reliable for our core use case — host-level VM backup for our Hyper-V environment. The Virtual Host licensing model has worked well for us, letting us cover all VMs on a host under a single license rather than managing per-VM costs, and it gave us the flexibility to migrate the license when we shifted workloads to a different host. Application-consistent backups via VSS integration have also given us confidence in our recovery capability for workloads like SQL Server.

The web layout is very easy to understand. There are many points, all easy to understand; there are many settings, clearly described; and each point is accompanied by a description. In addition, the Protect Cloud is clearly distinguished from the management portal, preventing confusion.

I only got one issue resolved for more than 20 cases open. The escalation is ineffective. Most of the time, I have the feeling that I know the solution better than the support technician. Overall, case management is time-consuming, as our resolution rate is really low

We have not been opening tickets for support from Macrium at the moment, only for licencing issues, but good attention and fast response by the support team. They respond pretty fast to our emails and fixed our issues giving us a good explanation of our case without any complications. Due to the good functionality of the software we have not opened a ticket for support in years.

I don't have any real key 'insights' per say except that it wasn't difficult at all, and do not be afraid to dabble in its tools and settings. It is quite intuitive with built in common sense. I cannot say enough good things about our companies experience when using this backup software.

The integrated cybersecurity feature stands out. The competition does not provide it. Also, there are other services that users can simply turn on from the portal. The EDR solution is really good, and so is the email security. MDR solution also looks promising. Overall, it is very easy to manage everything from the same console.

Veeam offers Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, a product we also install and use. It compares favorably with Macrium Reflect; however, for small firms and individual wanting an added cloud backup of their full hard drive, Macrium wins out in requiring less cloud storage space by a significant margin. ShadowProtect is a rock solid competitor with a higher price and no free version. It is highly dependable, but more complicated to install and set up. The number of technical issues and quality of technical support have ruled out Acronis products. MSP360 Backup has impressive technology, but we encountered issues with restore times and full drive image restores.

The ability to back up multiple servers from one source is a great tool to have for businesses that have equipment in different locations on the same network with a variety of software data to back up such as SQL, Exchange or a Files Server. You can decide to purchase individual server licenses as well if you would like to keep the process separate or have multiple sites where your data is housed.
