SpyFu is the eponymous SEO and PPC research platform from the company in Scottsdale, Arizona focused on "spying" on competitors, or basically using their behaviors to refine your own through keyword and content analysis, and backlink poaching. This positional search engine optimization and paid listings management platform touts the ability to lower costs and raise rankings via a Kombat-oriented approach... basically a cute way of saying "it makes comparisons" of how well your site does in niche…

The lowest-priced plan that has all the features needed and is recommended as a starting point. If users exceed the platform usage credits for a plan, a notification is sent, and the excess usage will be added to the next invoice or the user can upgrade to a higher plan.
Apify is great when I need to collect data from public websites and get the export in a structured format, such as product catalogs, contacts, and location details, and if that data must be exported on a regular basis, the same actor can be reused again and again. However, when I need just a one-off task or information, Apify is less useful, as writing a script directly is much faster and cheaper. The platform is also less useful, when the website or provider where I need data in a structure format, has already some sort of an API or MCP connection available, then it makes sense just using the API I need, rather then a web scraper.
If you have a Google ads PPC campaign and then I would say this is more or less essential if you want to know what your competitors are doing. You can get very useful data out of it even if you subscribe for one month. And the pricing is very reasonable. Even if you don't use Google ads, I would say this is still useful for your SEO/SMO team since it gives you a great idea of what keywords and traffic your competitors are working on.

I think monetization part needs some improvement. Sometimes it stops working.
Second issue is that when you run actor locally on your device using Apify run command, it runs fine and does not show errors. However, when you run on Apify platform, it starts showing error that this python based library is not supported etc. I think, error logging needs to be improved.
Issue support is very slow. If you create an issue it takes a lot of time that somebody reply.
Automated testing also needs to be improved. Testers run simple tests and if extra keys are used or something else, test is failed.

It's the best because you can just load in a limited amount of money and limit your financial exposure to using a tool like this. so renewing isn't a big consideration... i know that i'm going to need the tool in the future and i'll load it with money accordingly when im ready.
Love this tool but would like insights from all 3 major search engines not just Google. I would also like deeper understanding of the placement for local businesses on Google Places/Maps. Insight into mobile search rankings and best landing pages per industry would also help :) Overall, SpyFu is a necessity for serious search marketers.
Extremely easy when connected via MCP with Claude Co-Work. I do not really understand the Apify website itself. It's a bit confusing, but when I use Claude as an operator and translator, it is absolutely a game-changer. Whenever I have an issue, I ask Claude to connect to Apify and ask what the best way for me to do things is. Should I use the Google Maps scraper in this area or this area? Which one has the highest chance of giving me the best results that I need? Claude's code can completely simplify the whole process, which makes the whole thing a lot easier for me to make faster and better decisions. I do not know what I would do now without Apify. My business cannot even be a business without it.

SpyFu is an easy to use tool, and has a self -explanatroy dashborad to generate the data needed to provide insights into any B2B SEO and PPC campaign. It is not comprehensive, but it certainly provides good enough insight to make it a valuable part of any agency tool stack

We never needed to contact support directly because the platform was always clear and easy to use. The documentation is thorough, there are plenty of how-to guides, and YouTube.
SpyFu comes with a link to tutorial videos. I recommend you watch them. The software is capable of so much you really need to watch the videos and learn how to get the most out of it. When I have a question 90% of the time it's there. When it isn't, and I reach out to them, support is always quick and concise.

I use Oxylabs and ScraperAPI as paid backup tools; I also have backup parsers on my own VPS, set up to run on a timer. They solve the problem of retrieving data but do not help to present it as a product or find a buyer. I chose Apify because it turns a parser into something you can sell, and the proxies come as part of the infrastructure. Running your own infrastructure is cheaper—until you factor in the hours spent maintaining it.

I was surprised to find I preferred Semrush when it comes to keyword research. SpyFu is great (and less expensive than Semrush), but I felt the data Semrush provided was vaster than SpyFu. I was able to get more competitors spending insights in Semrush than SpyFu. Overall, I liked the ability to use both in our keyword research for both paid and organic marketing.
