SAP Integration Suite
Chose SAP Integration Suite
SAP Integration Suite is lower cost and more reliable especially in landscapes with more SAP systems.
Chose SAP Integration Suite
MuleSoft is a middleware that can be used to integrate APIs; whereas, SAP Integration Suite can act as a middleware, API provider, and can also used for API management.
Chose SAP Integration Suite
We selected SAP just because we have everything in SAP and we did have a good sales team from SAP to convince us to use it. No doubt it's good.
Chose SAP Integration Suite
Other services seem to have a head start in supporting open standards. Not only in the support of up-and-coming ones but some fringe technologies as well. The biggest advantage of SAP is connectivity and interoperability with their core modules.

Few scenarios 1. For viewing API analytics, I think it is best in the market 2. For earning money via API monetization 3. Securing API 4. Onboarding legacy APIs to provide modern REST endpoints

In our case to have a such a poweful middleware in the cloud, give us a lot of benefits such as maintenance and support. In the integration part to be able to connect SAP and Non SAP applications makes SAP Integration Suite a good investment when our master data in this case is in S4HANA. Less appropriate is that sometimes the updates in production tenant failed and they have to downgrade or repair the issues. Affecting the usage of the tool. I guess SAP team have to be more aware of performing the changes and tested well on development environments and then when they know for sure that is the correct way to go with the update put it in production.

Pros
Google
  • Better exception handling with the Raise exception policies help to monitor the flow by setting up the flow conditions.
  • Easy development of a Proxy and APIs with much less tutoring and helps make getting started for new users easy.
  • Very good documentation and blog with details of most common failures and error handling.
  • A very very easy to use console.

  • Enhanced API management features that allow now the integration with a multitude of data feeds and rating agencies
  • Immediate evaluation of potential issues and configurable thresholds and automatic notifications.
  • The application will monitor all aspects of compliance and update them automatically for several jurisdictions at time

Cons
Google
  • Only one user can be active in a proxy at a time
  • No version control
  • Prohibited from using JSON.stringify on Apigee objects (tokens)
  • Debugging is difficult
  • Unable to rename or delete policies without bumping revision
  • Why would anyone give a js policy one name, display name something else, and script a different name?
  • 'Trace' limited to only 20 transactions
  • UI allows users to add target servers, but users must utilize the api to turn on SSL.
  • I'm sure there's more, they just aren't coming to mind right now.
  • Apigee forgets (expires?) your password at random intervals without notice. Every few weeks, or days, sometimes even three times in one day, I'll attempt to login to Apigee and my password will be 'wrong'. I've reset my password and Apigee still claims it's wrong. I've had to reset my password three times before it finally let me log back in.

SAP
  • Provide more pre-built integrations to use within SuccessFactors or other modules instead of everything having to be custom built
  • Support is unable to provide advice on custom builds so you often have to engage a 3rd party partner
  • Works best when you have the functional and technical teams working together. Otherwise, the system is too technical for a functional user to create integration and a technical user not always understand the functional perspective

I am not the one deciding whether to use apigee or not really. But personally, I would recommend the use of it as developing APIs on it is easy. And as a mediator between backend servers, we could easily modify request and responses in it without touching any backend code while having a centralize gateway to access our backend APIs too.

SAP
It is in place, our system integrators are familiar with it, and it fits into the ecosystem. A better user interface, flow build and debugging experience would see it grow, many technical staff do not enjoy using it for this reason, however it is quite capable and powerful behind this one shortcoming.

Usability
Google
Support has helped us to resolved all the queries and community support was also good.

SAP
The user interface is messy and not intuitive. It has a steep learning curve, and flows developed around are easy to make a mess with layout and can be difficult to follow. The debugging is also quite difficult, it takes some time to figure out how to follow the flow and examine data. Error handling is also difficult and not intuitive, it is better to let some errors leak and monitor through ALM.

Support Rating
Google
Quite hard to get support, at least on the coding side, when we encounter blockers. But general concerns, they would schedule a call to you for them to get a whole picture of your concern. Albeit in my experience, bad really as they haven't replied about the progress, but otherwise seems to have been fixed.

Apigee is the best in the market in terms of API Analytics Apigee is having wonderful Documentation with short videos Security is a major concern and Apigee provides an easily configurable policy to secure API Quota and rate-limit is again very easy to configure on every API basis It provides various policies to transform the response from one form to another form e.g. JSON to XML or XML to JSON

SAP Integration Suite was already part of our SAP stack, part of Business Technology Platform, with out-of-the-box integration with S/4 HANA transactional and ERP system that we are using as our main back-end. Thus, we are achieving significant Total Cost Optimization benefits or running both solutions on the same platform, hosted on Azure cloud.

Return on Investment
Google
  • As a public entity it is hard to say how much ROI we can have. We have yet to create a billing and ROI plan. We are thinking of other ways to create ROI, possibly through data/service barter.

SAP
  • In the long run will enable us to undeploy our on premise solution
  • As long as integration suite doesn't support all capabilities PO has complete migration is hard
  • Will probably be cheaper than our on premise solution when we are completely migrated
