Autodesk 3ds Max

3DS Max is really the best tool for those looking to create mograph designs, 3D models for video games, VFX composites and virtual sets, or just to quickly mock up some product designs with rapid rendering that still looks good. It really starts to fall behind though when you get into animation tools like rigging or smooth surface models or higher end ray tracing renders. If you need something for full-on animated films or final pass production physics effects, then use Maya instead.

Blender

Blender
is one of the best software focused mainly on modeling, lighting control,
rendering, animation, and 3D graphics. This software is completely free and
open-source, and it is more than at the level of other similar alternatives
within the professional field. Some movies such as Coffee
Run (2020), Spring (2019), and movie studios (like Marvel)
have used it to animate and process their films and effects. The only issue is that it slows down the PC sometimes.

Alternatives Considered

Autodesk 3ds Max

Complex models are very easy to make in 3ds Max compared to other software, as Autodesk provides safety and security for your data and there are always there to serve you better. My experience with Autodesk was remarkable and Upmarket integration with other plugins makes 3ds Max vast and have an easy interface so that any new person who is using for the first time can understand simply.

Blender

To date, Maya has been and is the undisputed
leader in the sector. Despite being at such a high price,
there is really no substitute for Maya's quality. Therefore, the use of
Maya is prevalent. If you wanted to enter
the animation market, there is no other option but to learn how
to use Maya professionally.

Blender is open-source (totally free),
while Maya costs around $ 1500 per year (yes, per year). Although it is also
true that Maya has a free license for students. But if you want to do
professional work (charging for it), or have it installed in a company or
studio, then the license has to be paid.

Return on Investment

Autodesk 3ds Max

  • Allows us to meet deadlines quickly - render times are minutes, not days.
  • Digs into profits due to licensing fees - just a single seat can set us back thousands.

Blender

  • It's free!
  • The capabilities are endless and managers love seeing the results live at the touch of a few buttons
  • At times we purchase plugins or assets for Blender but there is an immediate return when a render comes out flawless and as imagined
