The Avid eco-system is extremely reliable. There are multiple pieces working together to transcode, index, and archive media. Needing minimal maintenance and upgrades. Avid support is extensive and can be reached 24/7 at any time of the year. I recommend this product to any production team that wants a long term, reliable asset manager

Canto

Canto is ideal for companies that have a lot of items to keep tabs on, such as sales collateral or other materials needed internally. Canto is great for corporate use because everyone can access it easily via a simple link. However, there are times when finding items in Canto was difficult, but honestly, that is probably more user error than anything (such as naming conventions and whatnot). All in all, Canto is a very good product.

  • Facial recognition technology helps us tag key staff automatically.
  • The in-tool search and tagging features are very robust, allowing us to find the specific assets we need fast.
  • The AI driven auto tagging is a nice addition and helps broaden what we can look for.
  • The ability for outside vendors to seamlessly upload content straight into the tool saves a lot of work for us.
  • The ability to selectively share out specific assets or folders with other departments or principals is a great way to really capitalize on our assets without creating extra work for my team.

  • The same media can be imported more than once by multiple users, creating duplicates. A way for the user to be prompted that this media already exists before the import.

Canto

  • The download button is hard to find, a little obscure and I'm finding that employees are having a hard time figuring out how to download images without help/instructions.
  • I had to write up detailed instructions for employees on how to use Canto. It's not exactly user-friendly and self-explanatory upon first use. You have to use it a while to fully understand all capabilities.
  • When you do a search, there's the option where if you mouse over the search icon, a tool pops up allowing you to "search within" and the option to select other search filters. This is not easily findable. I have to tell people about it to narrow their search.

I was able to demo almost every significant DAM service while trying to choose what platform to adopt for the company and Canto won the race by far. They are better than other DAM services and their reps are always responsive and ready to help in any way they can, which is huge when you are moving an entire company to the platform. The Canto team has also been able to take our feedback and work on larger projects to make the platform better for us and other users by adding features that no other DAM is utilizing

Canto is about as easy to use as it gets. I have personally trained a handful of employees who are unfamiliar with DAM/marketing SaaS technology on how to use the platform for their needs. These trainings only take about half an hour (given they are using a very limited set of Canto's features), and afterward, they are pretty well-equipped to use the platform.

The Support for Canto has done an outstanding job. The support team is great to work with and easy to communicate with. They have been there every step of the way and have really made this a smooth transition for us. I would say their amazing support is what sold us on the product.

We didn't have a thorough enough plan for ownership of uploading and tagging and some of our tags were inconsistent which led to some regression in our usage. We tightened up that plan on our end and spoke with support team on Canto's end to establish some best practices and have a much better workflow now.

Final Cut Server was a mess and wasn't really supported by Apple anymore when we were last using it. Avid has good support and we know they're going to be around and support their products. It's also just a better fit for our workflow in terms of producing content, as well as archival and storage solutions.

Canto

Google photos has an edge on Canto regarding photo editing and enhancement; I prefer Google Photo Album's share links. Also, Google photo album links look better on a mobile device and are easier to scroll for clients when browsing photos. I think Canto could find ways to improve its mobile sharing and scrolling features.

  • As of right now, we are still in the process of transitioning so I do not know any details on overall business effectiveness or any hard numbers. But as of now it seems very capable of handling the amount of information my company holds.
  • I think it is an amazing perk that you can literally upload any type of file on Canto, and then you can open any type of file on Canto as well. It is amazing to find a product that lets you open and view CAD or DWG files without having the actual program!
  • The idea behind having our information more at everyone's fingertips and helping productivity has boosted moral and people are optimistic.
