I think Eikon is a close substitute. It doesn't have as many features as S&P Capital IQ, but unless you're working for a bank, hedge fund, or in corporate treasury, you probably won't notice it.
In my opinion, FactSet is another good alternative. It comes with more features …
As mentioned, believe it is a much stronger offering that CapIQ. Bloomberg is a better tool for credit and the messaging features, but cost prohibitive. We found that for research tasks FactSet Workstation is more than a good enough option, although we do supplement with a …
Bloomberg has the most data / content but is too expensive, while Eikon has the least. FactSet Workstation and Capital IQ were comparable in price but FactSet Workstation had broader data coverage.
While FactSet Workstation certainly stacks up in terms of quantity of data with other providers, the quality is top-notch. I can directly see the source of each line item on a financial statement which gives me confidence what I see is factual data directly from the companies I …
Cap IQ is well suited for analyzing security pricing and valuation, tracking stock performance over time, looking up comparable transactions, and analyzing valuations on an industry basis. The service is also well suited for charting and data analysis purposes.
If your are large asset management company focused mostly on interest rate products and you are large institutional trader your way is the use of Charles River Portfolio Management & Risk Analytics account which is most reputable custodian institution which offers superior tool for bonds trading - Charles River IMS. Charles River Portfolio Management & Risk Analytics is focused on large bond traders, so is not offered for small hedge funds. It is not appropriate if you are small account holder and focused more on stock market offerings, margin trading and less focused on custodian reputation. There is no separate risk module for trading group risk management.
FactSet works for all my IR needs. I do not see a function for which I use it for that it would be less appropriate. I believe that the tool's efforts towards becoming more integrated with AI are strong and that in time the Mercury offering will be just as competitive as some of the other AI offerings out there today such as AlphaSense
The user interface on stock monitor needs work - sometimes I wish to clone the same fields to another tab/watchlist and it appears the best way to do so is recreate it form scratch
transcript to be more timely and more accurate
on the consensus financial forecast tab, have more segment breakouts like Visible Alpha
We need the FactSet data and capabilities to complete 75% of the financial analyses that we complete for both internal and external purposes. It is invaluable and I am not aware of any other provider that would be able to fill this gap that FactSet does
It does everything I need. It is pretty user friendly and easy to work with whatever technology interface I am using (desk top, notebook, tablet, or mobile phone). I am able to get work done whether I am in the office, at home, or traveling. The user up time is very good. They are rarely doing maintenance when I need to use the platform
We had Capital IQ in addition to Bloomberg. It was much easier for a new person to use Capital IQ than Bloomberg. The ease of use was a huge selling point for us. Yahoo finance on the other hand is free, but you cannot gather all the data you may need in one location like you can in Capital IQ.
Charles River Portfolio Management & Risk Analytics is a state of the art company which owns state of the art products Charles River Portfolio Management & Risk Analytics. If you are considering long term value, capital preservation strategy and pension funds management that is the right choice if holdien one account versus several to get systematic diversification. You can run even department of banks treasury with use of Charles River Portfolio Management & Risk Analytics. So good but focused on large investors needs and diversification focus.
Product is magnitudes more affordable and provides 80% of the functionality that Bloomberg has and is working to build out the remaining. The workstation is more user friendly than bloomberg but still not perfect. Not as robust as a Bloomberg Terminal and doesn't have the chat/trading features.
