Having the ability to completely manage a project from start to finish with one app is super helpful. The time reporting feature (when it works correctly) is a nice added bonus as it allows employees to switch from one task to another on the same project or to another project and task with ease, aiding in the accounting process of the total project. This was helpful for running analytics to see where we were spending too much time on certain tasks, thus allowing us to assess any training needs.

Miro
Miro is great for online, collaboration because, team members can jump in and add their comments. There are many templates that help with visualization. It's not so great for novice users, who may need some extra time to learn how it works. Also, you may need to take extra steps to invite participants that are outside of your company, if you're using an enterprise version.

Pros
Buildertrend
  • The integration of all aspects needed to run a remodeling company efficiently: project scheduling and management, financial planning and customer service. Since it’s an all-in-one suite and cloud-based, it enables our team to keep track of all our projects in real-time. Communication breakdown is the last thing we want, so being on the same page is not only desirable but makes for the best possible relationship with our clients.
  • Product education - We like how CoConstruct helps new users and get them to start using the tool right away. The dashboard resource materials are incredibly useful. We don’t have to spend a lot of time training new hires on the system and onboarding new clients.

  • Real-Time Collaborative Brainstorming: It is delicious there because we can think simultaneously and make timely decisions, thus better visualizing and analyzing the problem statements and finding solutions.
  • Earlier, we used to have non-interactive sessions, which did not attract the team's attention. However, with this tool, we now have Interactive Workshops and Design Thinking, which help us a lot in getting employees to focus on company goals.
  • Process Mapping: we map it very well and know how the outcomes are driven through extraordinary processes.

Cons
Buildertrend
  • Internal Communication - CoConstruct lacks the ability to tag-team members for internal communication using @mentions or any other means. This has been crippling for us and forced us to use alternative software for communicating among our team members.
  • Pipeline Management - CoConstruct's lead-tracking system feels clunky and hard to navigate and doesn't provide a pipeline view that's easy to navigate. We have moved our Pipeline Management outside of CoConstruct to make it easier for our sales team to track leads.
  • CRM - CoConstruct doesn't offer anything for customer follow-up after projects are completed. This, in addition to the lack of an effective pipeline system, has led to our decision to use Hubspot as our CRM. Moving projects into CoConstruct for Design and back our after Production.

Miro
  • It is somewhat difficult to rearrange process flows once they're drafted. Perhaps adding a grid where the spaces are flow steps and the borders are fixed arrows between steps; then a step could be dragged into a different order without entirely messing up the arrows.
  • Allow Mind Map branches to overlap -- if I have a couple of layers on one branch and 10 on another it's annoying to have the first push way off into the distance. Perhaps this could be a manual vs automatic branch alignment toggle?
  • Allow multiple lines to connect to the same point on one object - sometimes multiple connections come from the same source or lead back into it, and having to come to different sides gets pretty messy.

Miro
There is no other tool like Miro for process Mapping in particular. I've tried PowerPoint, Word, and other programs, but when collaborating virtually on how to improve a process, Miro has all of the tools and more to enable successful mapping. The colors, different types of shapes and text books, along with the ability to integrate different documents and other functionality, make it ideal for this purpose. In a virtual world, it's a must-have.

Miro
It's pretty easy to use. My gripes are with some small idiosyncrasies with selection behavior with objects and editing text. When I move an object, it automatically de-selects it when I am not done with it. I have to click to select again. Text control is challenging and could be improved. It could use a little more styling capability. It's also weird that it behaves differently in a shape then when using the text tool.

Miro
I only give a 9/10 because of the speed at which it loads. I have never experienced issues with Miro logging me out early, or some other technical issue causing the program to crash, or even it just loading in perpetuity without ever actually coming up (unlike other programs such as SFDC). It take a minute for all of my boards to come up after I click on it in my favorites, but besides that, it's all good.

Miro
I took the loading quickly to be related to availability which I commented on before, so ditto with those comment on load time here. Although to reemphasize, Miro doesn't crash or just refuse to load like some other programs. The weak point of Miro for me is integration of files like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint (especially the later two). When you embed these, it gets slow, and complicated to bring them up while you're in the application.

Support Rating
Buildertrend
The support staff is brilliant; they don't operate on Australian time, so you can't just dial up support when you need it. The response times are quick, and the staff is knowledgeable. They are also well versed in most of the differences between buildings in the US and the building in Australasia. Despite their funny accents and strange use of the English language, we get by just fine!

The support staff at Miro are fantastic. Whenever I have had an issue, they have been timely and helpful with their response. They are also very knowledgeable and go out of their way to not only help, but offer proactive training sessions on different topics and new functionality so everyone can try it out.

Miro
There was a series of webinars which Miro hosted with our organization that went over the basics, then progressively became more advanced with additional sections. The instructors were knowledgeable, and provided examples throughout the sessions, as well as answered peoples' questions. There was ample time and experience on the calls to cover a range of topics. The instructors were also very friendly and sociable, as well as honest. Of course Miro isn't a "God-tool" that does absolutely everything, but the instructors were aware and emphasized the strengths where Miro had them and sincerely accepted feedback.

Very easy to implement. The tool can be used and configured in countless ways. We currently use it as an online collaborative whiteboard. We set up our instance of Miro similar to how we used in office Whiteboards. We could easily set it up and configure it to exactly our liking. It took just under an hour to set up and we were up and running in using it by the next day.

Alternatives Considered

Products like Procore and PlanGrid are geared towards projects with huge projects teams, multiple stakeholders and dozens of subcontractors. CoConstruct can be used for projects big and small (value) and also with small project teams or large projects teams. For small partial renovation or addition projects CoConstruct is a good more cost effective option.

Jamboard was really clunky and didn't work well. I haven't used Figma very much but it looks like it is a potential Miro competitor and I'll keep it in mind if Miro becomes too feature-ridden for ease of use. We use a Vibe board with Miro in teaching classes a lot, and it is very helpful for giving real-time feedback to students.

Miro
Miro is great for scaling. In every department and subdivision across my entire organization, there is someone using it. From Sales to marketing, to manufacturing and operations; and even in legal and finance, there isn't a process or a department that is not using Miro, and if they aren't, they're missing out! Even at the highest to the lowest levels of the organization, it is essential for virtual collaboration.
