Comodo Antivirus

Comodo Antivirus seems to be very cost-effective and capable, but if someone was particular about certain things, I think they could be disappointed. You could pay a lot more for a bigger brand and get a little better customization options. It works for us who don't have any internal custom apps anymore. When we did, one that used command-line functions that called other programs and resources on the network, everything about it was rightly being flagged. Since we got away from having a program that could resemble one a hacker uses, we have had very limited issues. We had to just turn containment off because it was too much of a hassle to figure out how to get all of the different parts white-listed.

FortiClient

FortiClient is really well suited for providing remote employees super quick access to a local network without needing much technical know-how. The virus scanning and web-blocking is also really great at making sure to keep the spam, ads, and other malicious web connections at bay. I have not run into any specific scenario that FortiClient has not been well suited - All of the scenarios in which I have used FortiClient have all functions really well for me.

Pros

Comodo Antivirus

  • Automatic containment of suspicious programs
  • Centrally managed whitelist options
Justin Bongard | TrustRadius Reviewer

FortiClient

  • FortiClient is easy to set up and get running on Windows 10.
  • You can set up and connect very quickly and, according to you connection's reliability, it never goes down.
  • It's fast (not much overhead) and doesn't impact the computer's performance even on the system's start-up.

Cons

Comodo Antivirus

  • Whitelisting could be more customizable.
  • We were getting a lot of false positives for Windows updates and other widely used applications, but, then, they seemed to fix that problem.

FortiClient

  • It seems that after a long time of not browsing in the remote folder structure it disconnects.
  • It requires signing in every time, but since I'm not at a remote location everyday, maybe there is a setting I'm missing that allows you to automatically connect every login.

Because the software is very simple and easy to use, very efficient, and has a stable connection that allows the user to perform tasks without problems. Also, this software does not need to be configured by IT technicians, since it comes with a very developed and understandable set up guide.

Usability is pretty solid. It is not as easy to manage and adjust if you are not a trained IT professional, which requires smaller companies without IT staff to reply on outsourced IT partners. The user interface is a bit clunky, but you can generally figure out what you need to do, it just takes a little bit of time and effort.

I have interacted with them several times, and I'm not giving them a 10 because they never blew my mind how good they were, but they certainly met my high expectations and helped us resolve all issues we had. We paid for support to help us set it up, and I think that was a good choice. There's a very steep learning curve at first with the initial configuration. We feel confident in being able to change everything now that we have been using it, but initially it was all a very new thing to us since we never had used a centrally managed Antivirus and Firewall program before.

The FortiNet team is fantastic. We've spent a lot of time with them over the years (albeit not often because their products are great) and every technician we get is very attentive and is willing to work with you until the end. We had an issue when trying to roll out an SSO solution, and had some trouble with the new MFA requirements for our VPNs, and they worked with our SSO vendor for as long as it took to get the job done.

Alternatives Considered

Comodo Antivirus

Especially considering the containment feature it had, we felt it was very well worth the price. All of the features are very hard to compare, and you have to eventually take a leap of faith. We were fine with where that took us with this program choice. Support has always been pretty good and friendly.

AnyConnect would disconnect randomly. One of the main reasons for switching was a vulnerability in the client that Cisco had no plans on patching. We would have to constantly address the vulnerability once a quarter after our vulnerability scans.

Return on Investment

Comodo Antivirus

  • Overall a very positive impact. We like how it can be told to remove itself the next time a computer comes online. Web root never worked well at doing that.
  • It was cheaper than alternatives, and we were really impressed with how safe computers can be with containment as long as it doesn't slow you down if you use custom-built apps.

FortiClient

  • AV (as well as every other security product) are generally all negative impact non-ROI. FortiClient is the same. The good thing is that it is less expensive than other similar products and thus less negative.
  • From an administrative standpoint we have also spent very little time on care and feeding of the product so the manpower cost is also less.
