Microsoft Entra ID
Chose Microsoft Entra ID
Microsoft Entra ID is really the only solution for a full Microsoft shop. I've had some experience with Google Workspace, and although it has it's advantages, Microsoft Entra ID really feels like a true business solution.
Chose Microsoft Entra ID
We find that this is more integrated into various apps, which provides an almost single pane of control for access to our device and user estate.
Chose Microsoft Entra ID
So G Suite and I mean I've used on-Prem Active Directory. Those are really the competitors Jam for the Mac side of things, but that's a whole other story. Microsoft is the leader in that atmosphere for sure.
Chose Microsoft Entra ID
I know the other products like Okta, CyberArk like that, but I've never used them.

CrowdStrike
Crowdstrike is a unified platform for monitoring endpoint devices, whether they're workstations, servers, cloud-native machines, or even mobile devices. It uses AI/ML to monitor anomalies and suspicious behavior, including zero-day attacks. It is suitable for large organizations but may be costlier or less appropriate for smaller organizations, those who want an on-prem EDR setup, and those who need custom scanning based on compliance requirements.

That one is tough. It's just easy to integrate the sign-on portion with other products from other companies. Like BluePoint or Podint. It's very easy to integrate the user information with others. Using Android ID to register an application with other companies' applications.

  • The first thing is that it's a really good platform to make a whole inventory of your hardware and software that you already have in the organization. It's very simple. It's very easy to look at what you have in the whole organization. And after that, start applying, for instance, some policies, some solutions in terms of zero trust access using MFA as a second form of authentication. So, these are the ways we use the MTIV platform.

Cons
CrowdStrike
  • Support - we are often tasked with running down problems rather than being directed by support.
  • The sales staff we have dealt with are not very responsive or timely.
  • I believe this is a product built for installations of 300 users or more.

  • There is one thing that we lost since we migrated from Active Directory and it is the user expiration date. If I have an external that I know will work for six months, I have to manually check or put some kind of reminder. I cannot set an expiration date in Microsoft Entra ID. I still don't know why.

MSFT Entra ID has been essential for managing our geographically dispersed team. We're confident that it will scale with us as grow, and we'll be able to take advantage of additional security and ID management features as they become necessary. Being able to centrally manage our user access from anywhere with a small support team is such a relief.

Usability
CrowdStrike
I think it is a complete and very trustful XDR platform, with very few False Positives. It is very well supported by highly skilled professionals on all levels: from pre-sales engineers, Customer Account Managers and support engineers.

It's not complex. It works as configured, right? There's a lot of granular rules, and it'll get very specific if you need it to. But for many of our security capabilities, especially for mid-market enterprises, I think you can get all the capabilities you typically need with OnStar.

Support Rating
CrowdStrike
Any time we need to engage the Crowdstrike Falcon Complete Team, their response is switch, thorough, and they are sure to not close out any request until the customer confirms that they have provided an acceptable resolution. If I ever need anything from the account team related to the product, I also get a response from them within minutes typically to address my question. Top notch customer service!

I have not needed to engage support for anything at this time. I have been able to find the answers either online or in a knowledgebase. I tried to skip the question but it would not let me, so I rated a 9 based on other interactions with Microsoft support I have had

In-Person Training
CrowdStrike
There is limited amount of learning that can be completed in an in-person training available. In my opinion, the self-paced learning provided by Falcon portal is more useful over in-person training. The support from Falcon is great and useful to overcome difficulties, if any.

Online Training
CrowdStrike
The training provided by Crowdstrike Falcon is complete in terms of the depth of technical knowledge and teaches the users about going through with the platform. There are lots of jargons for different tools that Crowdstrike Falcon has and this training teaches them all which helps in managing the platform better. Plus, the regular knowledge checks are also very helpful for the end user.

Make sure you use a good partner. Our implementation was a bit longer and more problematic than we expected. Our partner got it done, but, in my opinion, some of their inexperience and staffing issues were evident.

Alternatives Considered
CrowdStrike
It was just a legacy AV program onboarded during initial setup days. As the org. As it expanded, its threat landscape also grew, and we needed a next-gen solution to protect against evolving threat vectors. Falcon EDR was the one that solved all these in a single place.

Microsoft Entra ID is not as stand-alone product as competitors like Okta. It may lack some of the features that competing products have but on the other hand it integrates both technically and license wise with other Microsoft cloud services and is easy to deploy. It is also the easiest way to extend identity management to the cloud if you already have Microsoft Active Directory in use.

  • Definitely, I can consider this one a positive because, as I mentioned earlier, it's a tool that can help our internal ID team track end users' activities in their sign-in logs and a lot of other things, which is really good and helpful for us.
