datapine

For someone like me, who had no real experience in using BI tools before, datapine suits quite well. Most of the features I was able to explore on my own, and their support was always really helpful (as well as the tutorials). In general, I was most impressed from their dashboard features. If you look for a software with detailed statistical analysis options, you maybe need to take another (additional) tool. My main use-case was the visualization and reporting of the analysis results, not the statistical analysis itself. This usually was done before with SPSS.

Sigma

Sigma is great for organizations that want to give their business users access to generate their own insights from the data warehouse without having to go through Engineering or the Data Team. The product is a great fit if you already have usable data and you want to derive insights into a straightforward interface. It would be less appropriate for organizations that want a data cleaning or data transformation layer integrated with their BI platform, or for cases where very complex, advanced visualizations are needed.

Pros

datapine

  • Intuitive user interface, especially within the analyzer (drag & drop).
  • Dashboard templates helped to create visually appealing dashboards.
  • Many different reporting options.
  • Customer support is really helpful.
Anonymous | TrustRadius Reviewer

Sigma

  • Clean UI makes the powerful system approachable and inviting to begin sandbox testing.
  • Modular approach. You can pivot and pull and plug away so much. The permutations are endless with lots of visualizations and integrations to keep the data and insights flowing.
  • Great for multi-user and getting people set-up across the org.

Cons

datapine

  • Some advanced functions need SQL knowledge.
Anonymous | TrustRadius Reviewer

Sigma

  • Sigma's mechanism for defining and using filters in reports and dashboards is very far behind their competitors. Filter behavior is often inefficient and counterintuitive.
  • The queries Sigma generates for non-trivial operations seems to be relatively inefficient, and it makes extensive use of machine-generated column identifiers that make it difficult to diagnose which parts of the query are causing trouble.

Because we are very satisfied with the product and would most likely renew because of the services it provides. It is a tool that you bring into your organization and let it change the way you analyze your data, present your data and share you date within the Respective teams

My learning curve with Sigma was very quick but also very steep. When I first looked at it, I was rather confused by the new paradigm but after playing with it for about 15-20 minutes it "clicked" and suddenly I was performing the most powerful non-handwritten-SQL queries of my career, and everything since then - visualisations, etc - have been a breeze. Their support team is also immensely helpful when I have been unable to find things, with chat right there in the app at all times (unlike some companies that like to bury it or hide it behind a crappy kb interface).

It depends, it loads quickly for smaller dashboards but when loading larger amounts of data it takes more time to do so

I must remain somewhat neutral on a support rating as I've had very limited exposure to their support organization. That said, in the self-service realm, there are a ton of resources/articles to help guide users though nearly every situation (e.g., understanding syntax, how to add basic objects/filters, etc.). Sigma Computing offers a vast collection of support articles (all fairly well formatted/written), and it's overall usage/adoption have allowed for a number of third-party resources and forums to spring up.

Sigma Computing is far and away more intuitive to navigate, much easier to look at, and seems to put all of the data and tools I need at my fingertips. I no longer need to dive deep into NetSuite to build reports, update them, or find data for one-off customers. This saves time, stress, and frustration. It aids quick conversation in meetings as well.

Sigma

  • Adoption of data to make decisions and measure goals.
  • Build-out of complex reports (regressions/cohort analysis) with relatively low levels of learning training; easy to use.
  • Drive-up run time (cost) on data warehouse cluster usage; both good and bad in that there's more usage of the data, but also no caching so a lot of extra unnecessary queries being run.
