PhpStorm
Chose PhpStorm
Both Visual Studio Code an Sublime Text are excellent code editors, and even offer a better performance than PHPStorm. However they are not complete IDE's and do not perform half of the tasks that PHPStorm does.
Chose PhpStorm
While these two are also code editors, they are far from as robust as the PhpStorm IDE. Although these editors also support plugins to perform functions similar to PhpStorm, by bringing it natively it is much more efficient and you get rid of compatibility worries, etc. and it …
Chose PhpStorm
PhpStorm is without compare for a shop that works entirely in PHP. We've evaluated some of the other text editors on the market and while they have their perks, specifically speed, they aren't nearly as easy to navigate within the codebase or make sweeping changes.
Chose PhpStorm
Easier to use, more features, more reliable. Much more purpose built with specific integrations aimed directly at php code instead of the broad generic interfaces the other software have that are aiming to support many different languages.
Chose PhpStorm
Two things were decisive for choosing PhpStorm, and the first was the Education version since we were a university we were able to license for free, and the other was that we just had to use a single tool to develop our activities (coding, versioning), and operations in the …
Sublime Text
Chose Sublime Text
Sublime Text does not provide as comprehensive of a development environment as PhpStorm or Visual Studio IDE. On the other hand, it does not take up nearly as much in system resources, so it is very convenient to use when opening many files or directories for lighter editing. …
Chose Sublime Text
I think Sublime is the most efficient text editor in terms of memory usage, especially compared to VSC. However, VSC is feature-rich and has almost all the features of IDE such as debugging tools and IntelliSense. These features are missing in sublime. There are plugins to …

DBeaver
If you are connecting to Snowflake and want to query from your laptop, I find that this is much easier to use than Snowflake's IDE. It allows us as a business intelligence team to more easily connect to our servers, and code with much less hassle. It would be less appropriate if you are only on an on-premises SQL server, in that case, I would just use SSMS.

PhpStorm is well suited for any project that utilizes PHP. I have used it on Windows, Ubuntu, and Mac OS and it works great on all those platforms. Having a solution that keeps the developer from having to constantly switch tools to do their job is invaluable. Whether you're a junior developer, front end engineer or a senior developer, PhpStorm is a great product that will help you get your work done.

My CMS has a small window in which I can edit custom HTML/CSS. It can be expanded some, but not as much as I would like. It also displays all code as dark text on a white background. On a page where I am doing extensive custom coding, it is helpful to see it in a larger window and in a color-coded display so that I don't have to strain my eyes as hard. Especially when I'm trying to scan for specific elements and target issues and so that I don't have to scroll endlessly in a tiny window.

Pros
DBeaver
  • Identify types of DB connections by color code: development, testing and production.
  • Predictive typing, it is incredibly accurate and saves me a lot of time.
  • Jump between different simultaneous DB connections.
  • Navigate through the schema object tree.
  • Provide all the tools I need in one window.

  • Database browsing, Remote host browsing, and all the deep seated customizations for both the UI and Technical feasability are the result of an amazing integrity and compatibility with most components and technologies.
  • The built-in shell is insanely helpful for traversing code in order to debug scripts with ease, and the plug-in system makes this software quite extensible.
  • Not to mention the variety of options and settings (divided into global settings and per-project settings) are both intuitive & easy to use, especially the fact that I can export and import them across my workstations while maintaining my spacing & indentation, highlighting, inspection patterns and syntax styling.

Cons
DBeaver
  • Schema editing is not very intuitive. Editing a single column forces you into multiple tab windows when trying to change something simple like a column name.
  • Sorting and filtering in data is nice, but buried in long right-click menus.
  • Some things are definitely non-standard UI for a Windows application, so it might be hard for die-hard Windows fans to get used to.

JetBrains
  • Some of the newest github copilot features lag behind what's being done in vs code and would be nice if more of the newer features were brought over though this has greatly improved recently
  • Interface can be a little overwhelming for newcomers
  • Some features like rainbow brackets should be native rather than addon

  • Plugins are easier to use and less complicated but transferring your license to a new computer isn't as simple as it sounds.
  • Sublime has an automatic file comparison feature, but it's challenging to use and should be improved.
  • Adding the ability to mark or highlight the text with different colors would be an excellent application.

PhpStorm is very easy to use, once you get the hang of it. It can take a while to get the hang of it because there's so many options, some of which are buried in the imposing settings panel. It could use some help with multi-cursor, especially multi-file editing but that's a minor gripe.

This is a programmers tool. As such a lot of the features and benefits are lost on a non-technical user. To get the most out of the tool you need to have a basic crash course in how it works and what it can do. The documentation and community are good, but it takes a bit of time to get up to speed.

Not a lot of users have DBeaver so fewer resources are available online to help you if you have any issues. When I was trying to figure out how to create my own ER diagrams, it was a little tough to find resources

The JetBrains community is all about helping others succeed, even in the most obscure setups. I have never had a question go unanswered, or I have never been able to come up with empty results in searching for the answer. My questions or concerns are typically address from other users in the community, so timing is pretty quick for a response

Never had to use their customer support before. There is ample documentation online so it's straightforward to find a solution to any problem you might encounter. For example, I needed to convert a string of HTML code to a properly formatted HTML file to "modify." Easy to do when there are so many users of the product who have needed to do that same thing before.

MySQL workbench from MySQL only supports MySQL databases and it only provides basic functionality. On top of that, the user experience could be quite confusing for first-time users. SSMS from SQL server doesn't support inline editing nicely. The view for inline editing and view data is different, making it uncomfortable to use. All in all, DBeaver is the best tool when you manage a lot of databases with different types.

We've used both Notepad++ and Atom; both are great but nothing really beats the Sublime Text UI; super intuitive and friendly and does everything you need without overwhelming you with stuff you don't. Other options are free, but for our organization, it was well worth the small license cost for the persistent use of a great product.

Return on Investment
DBeaver
  • Positive Ability to manage DBeaver and query ad-hoc quickly
  • By having the queries saved it has saved developer time and thereby increased the ROI on the investment on the tool
  • This has made firefighting quicker and freed up resources for more development work.

  • PhpStorm decreased the time to market of new features - we are following the Agile SCRUM methodology with 2 weeks sprints. Using PhpStorm helped with releasing UI features even faster than 2 weeks.
  • Considering the price of the license and the cost of the server where we run it, the ROI is still high due to less time spent by developers with writing code, debugging, refactoring etc. Especially when you have highly paid developers.
  • Increased people's happiness - by using a modern tool with lots of features which has made their work easier.

  • Sublime Text has helped me to focus on specific tasks, cutting out the clutter that many other IDEs have. As such, it has helped me be a more productive employee because I don't get dazed by hundreds of buttons. I can focus on just the code.
  • Sublime Text is so affordable that it's a no-brainer to have an extra tool in your toolset.
  • The Search features of Sublime Text are so useful that it has saved me a great amount of time compared to using Find & Replace menus in Xcode, Android Studio, or Eclipse.
