Chose Function Point Productivity Software
We have not looked into other productivity software platforms, we found Function Point and were sold on the capabilities and customer service aspects from their team.
Function Point is a semi-integrated systems that plays well with QuickBooks as a standard. It is more difficult to implement than Freshbooks and Teamwork, but more robust and feature rich. Its interface is a decade or more behind these tools however. Function Point does much …
Workamajig was NOT a good fit, after over a year of back-end setup. FunctionFox didn't have the financial integration capabilities we needed, but we used it for years and were happy with the service and support. FunctionPoint brought together the 30,000-foot view of the …
We previously used Workamajig and have found Function Point to be superior in every way. Function Point is mobile friendly, web-based, does not use flash and is much more intuitive than Workamajig. We are able to much more easily get the data we need from the system and our …
When looking into other companies, we found that many either offered not enough or too much for what we needed. While Function Point can be expensive and the onboarding is somewhat intensive, the overall payoff was worth it. Customer service was also EXCELLENT.
We were drawn to FP for the ease of estimate to task to billing process. Previous solutions were very manual moving between each of these steps. SmartSheet was a glorified Excel document for tracking time that simply allowed multiple users to edit in a single place. Harvest was …
We were previously using Deltek GCS. Deltek stopped the support for this software so we were forced to change to a new product. We reviewed Costpoint, a Microsoft product and Unanet. We selected Unanet because it had all of the features we were looking for in a new software …
Unanet is MUCH less expensive than Deltek and is easier to use for an admin and employees. There are more robust features, much better reporting and access to actuals for managers. Our organization spent so much time in the past with offline work but now this is not necessary …
I evaluated several options and narrowed my search to Unanet, Big Time, Journyx, and Harvest. I had a demonstration by all but three (one did not offfer a demonstration that fit my needs) and I made a comparison worksheet of the features, costs, implementation time, support, …
We were used to Deltek's Costpoint from the prior company and Unanet is far easier to use for users, accounting personnel, project managers, and corporate managers. Continuous enhancements lead us to believe that Unanet will be even better in meeting our needs.
Unanet achieves all of our project based time management in one platform extremely well, which is what the goal was from the start. The previous platforms I have managed needed additional modules and significant resources to achieve the same result as Unanet.
FunctionPoint (FP) is great for agencies performing any type of task oriented work. If your workflow cannot be broken down into a set of outlined and easy to define tasks (even if the output of the task is abstract) then FunctionPoint would be difficult to implement. FunctionPoint is fantastic at defining scope in an engagement and forcing those who execute the work to stay within that scope if tasks are well-defined. If your work requires a lot of group collaboration and sharing of tasks, you may struggle with FunctionPoint's inability to share a single task simultaneously
As I said, Unanet is great for timekeeping and expense reporting. It's very easy to navigate and intuitive for my staff to use. On the other hand, reports are a challenge. The ones that are "canned" only come out as PDFs so I find I waste a lot of paper each month. Customized reports are better and come in Excel, but setting them up is not that easy. We've been working with Unanet just over a year. We went "live" effective 1/1/2017 and we're still avoiding the reporting functions even though that was one of the main reasons we purchased Unanet in the first place
Near real-time visibility into project financials. As soon as the employees save their time for the day, you can get a good measure of project financial performance. Work authorizations are embedded into Unanet so unintentional overruns are virtually eliminated.
Nice integration with the Joint Travel Regulations. It is easy to import the latest rate tables for both CONUS and OCONUS destinations.
Good customer support and highly responsive. Webinars on new features are free and broadcast on a regular basis. Feedback to suggestions for new features are addressed in a very timely fashion.
It is easy to structure Unanet to support DCAA practices to be able to get approval for cost plus jobs.
With exports to .csv files, it is easy to extract data for further analysis beyond the relatively rich built-in reporting features.
Reporting- FP offers many pre-loaded reporting functions but sometimes all of this amounts to our job summaries and not specifics.
Employee calendar/scheduling- FP does a lot for us and streamlines our processes but one of the main aspects it's lacking is the ability to use the system for employee management like PTO requests, Out of Office, Working Elsewhere, etc.
The support team is one of the friendliest and most responsive I've ever worked with. They are hobbled, however, by a software implementation backlog, buggy software, and a pricing structure that will drive you away.

Unanet has had a very significant ROI on several fronts. Our payroll department spends much less time managing and processing time in general.
Unanet has allowed all of the project managers teams bill on a much more granular level which has saved significant time over the previous Excel based processes of gathering project level data.
Using Unanet companywide has also saved many hours of time that were previously spent translating data from other platforms, and consolidating data via Excel for reporting purposes. Using the same tool (Unanet) with the included reports has saved significant time and hassle which has had an enormous impact on the ROI of Unanet.
