GoFundMe Charity vs. Xoom, a PayPal Service (personal use only)

GoFundMe is well suited for personal appeals where a story can be told and donors feel an immediate result or effect. It is less appropriate for larger mass appeals that are not targeted directly to a specific cause. For example, not good for companies to ask for funding for operating expenses.

Xoom is best suited to send and receive money between two people who live in different countries, not only that we can also send money to our friends, colleagues, family members directly in their bank accounts. They have a great currency exchange functionality that directly converts our received money into our local currency, and deposits it into our bank account within a few minutes. The only drawback is that not many people know about it, it needs good marketing so that more people can use this service, and from my experience, I can say it is very secure and a good competitor of Payoneer.

• Very fast transfer and very secure as being of PayPal.
• Receiver don't need to download the app or use Xoom.
• It supports bank and debit card to transfer funds and same with the receiver.

• Need a clearer picture of your campaign status, especially around publishing (making it live).
• Processing rates are not horrible but not great either - If we used our own processor our fees would be cut in half.

• Some destinations take longer to get delivered to.
• Higher amounts of money are harder to transfer.

GoFundMe is very easy to use and does a great job allowing us to share insights and stories to leave a lasting impression on donors. From setting up the account to ending the appeal, the entire process has been very user-friendly. I'm very impressed with the experience so far and plan to continue using it for future campaigns.

Crowdrise has been great with their customer support. They have always been helpful and available. They also have several resources on their website that has been useful to other areas of our non-profit. Their relatability has been positive for us and has made us feel taken care of and considered.

The implementation was largely successful. Since this was a large shift from normal practices, we faced a few teething problems, but largely I'd say it went well.

Since GFM was selected for us I can't give the rationale behind that. However, I do think that Qgiv and Salsa are more internally user-friendly and provide at least the same amount of functionality. That being said, the other two (I think) require CRMs to use whereas GFM can just integrate with others, making it a better choice for one-off campaigning.

We agreed to select Xoom as the main payment method since it had more flexible options. It gives the user a full guarantee of transacting safely and when there is a conflict the customer support team acts quickly. The charges for sending and receiving money are relatively low as compared to other platforms. The mobile application has biometric login features making it difficult for unauthorized users to access confidential information.

• We have had an uptick in payment processing times.
• We receive payments from customers on time with no lag between invoice and payment dates.
• Overall Xoom has literally added to our bottom line by allowing more than a physical check payment option.
