Google Meet, formerly Hangouts Meet, replaces the former Google Hangouts as the company's G Suite integrated web conferencing tool, allowing users to join meetings directly from a Calendar event or email invite from a computer, phone, or conference room. G Suite's Enterprise edition also creates a dial-in phone number for each meeting, as an additional convenience.

Zoom is premier. Google Meet is a close second. GoTo Webinar follows after Google Meet. I have used GoTo Webinar when it was the only way to access a particular webinar.

All of the tools above are great but we’ve found they are only good for internal meetings and not external clients. The ease of use with GoTo Webinar is unmatched by any of the competitors so we choose to have 2 tools - 1 for internal engagement and 1 for external client use.

Google Meet was a perfect video conferencing solution for us during our training sessions. The only problems encountered were due to weak signals, which sometimes required us to turn off our video. All features worked very well in tying together a team across four different time zones. I was very impressed with the tool's performance

It's highly suitable for hosting large-scale virtual events like industry conferences, product launches, and training sessions where engaging a dispersed audience is crucial. The platform's interactive features such as polls, Q&A, and surveys make it ideal for enhancing audience participation and feedback collection. Moreover, it's excellent for businesses conducting regular webinars for lead generation, sales presentations, or educational purposes. Its analytics help in assessing attendee engagement and refining content strategies. However, it might be less appropriate for smaller, more intimate meetings where real-time collaboration and video conferencing take precedence over one-to-many presentations. In such cases, simpler and more direct communication tools might be preferred. Additionally, if a company requires highly specialised integrations or customisation options beyond what GoToWebinar offers, they might find limitations within the platform. Lastly, for organisations with stringent security needs or those operating in highly regulated industries, they might need to ensure that GoToWebinar's security measures align with their specific compliance requirements before use.

Pros
Google
  • First off, the quality of the call is pretty good, especially when all of us are working remotely.
  • We can easily schedule our meeting in Google Calendar.
  • Sending an invitation link is easy.
  • What makes Google Meet stand out from other video conferencing tools is that we can use it for an unlimited time, even if we use the free account.

Cons
Google
  • Meet as it comes doesn't have a great way to handle large meetings.
  • I don't like the way they hide the mute button. It's a disruptive view to mute/unmute.
  • Chat box is the only way to document collaborations within the meeting.

  • Dashboard for control are mostly intuitive but in some menus like the webcasting section can be cluttered
  • The current polling and survey capabilities are too simple. More advanced features, such as branching logic and real-time results, would make engagement more dynamic and insightful.
  • Although it's easy for organiser to use goto webinar, users have reported issues and long wait time on their end and they don't have much control over the session

This app is still having a lot of redundant features as compared to other industry apps such as Zoom and Webex which offers much more on the functionality side along with the option to have greater user access control to the admin/host of the meetings. A sense of interaction is always found to be missing in Google meet which can be easily adopted in the Zoom

Our largest issue with GoTo have been the limitations on recording and using recordings to host a webinar, and the biggest of those is the ability to record. We have had most of our webinars recorded successfully, but when it failed to save, it failed in a big way. Their customer service team was there to help, but they were unable to truly fix the problem. There are, of course, other providers, but as we are still seeing where hosted webinars fit in our marketing strategy, cost is an important factor. Since our company already uses GoToMeeting, it makes more sense for us to stay with the entire suite of products, especially while we are testing the strategy as a whole.

Usability

Google Meet is very easy and simple to use. I can schedule a meeting right on my calendar - it literally takes a few seconds. There is no additional app I have to open to schedule anything. Guests can click on the link easily to join any meetings. 10/10!

Mostly about the platform's intuitive interface. It makes it easy to navigate and use. Clear menus, well-organized controls, and a straightforward layout contribute to a positive user experience. The reliability of the platform in terms of connection stability, audio quality, and video clarity contributes to overall usability. A dependable connection ensures a smooth experience for both hosts and participants.

Support Rating

Google does a great job of providing tech support for this product, as it does many others. Similarly, Google has FAQs that cover a large amount of issues faced by users. Problems have not persisted in our use of this product. Problems are resolved quickly and easily, with or without personal Google support.

I was always able to get someone on the phone when I needed to. They were very thorough and ensuring my questions were answered. And if I was asking for a solution or request that they didn't offer, they told me so I could at least stop trying to search for it.

I didn't participate in the implementation nor did my company. As far as I know we have an IT office running alla these projects and we just use the final products for our educational purposes. I also didn't notice implementation at any level while using the desktop interface, but would immediately recognize it, if so.

The main positive feature in Google Meet over Zoom to me is the fact that Google meet can be seamlessly deployed in the browser with its full functionality. Unlike Zoom for which you need to download an extra application to use. This consequently makes workflow smooth when transitioning between something like emails and taking part in a meeting.

I wasn't involved in the unit pricing factor. So far I used Google meet in the office where I got access to all these Google applications including the Google Meet feature. So I wasn't involved much in this pricing factor of Google Meet and also regarding the contact terms of the product.

This is very good in the professional services as I started using this first for the professional service only. While using this Google Meet itself gives a professional feel as the UI works in a professional way. The video background modification, multi-screen feature, and some other features help in professional service.

Return on Investment
Google
  • Negative: on each webinar someone from our team had to write manually the people that were participating and after that matching it with the registered people list. We wasted time. It could be easily resolved by adding the export list feature
  • Positive: Collaboration and internal meetings. Calendar integration helps us save time.

  • GoTo Webinar has been an excellent way to stay relevant and to get current topics/information to our target audience.
  • We usually get 100-200 attendees per session in a niche market, many are international attendees
  • The ability to get specific data from the audience via custom registration questions allows us to really focus on what they want to see.
