IBM Case Manager

Having worked with IBM Case Manager for around 4 years and seen multiple projects go live and supported in live using Case Manager, I would safely say that Case Manager (depending on the physical architecture) can be a very stable solution for entities that have many workflows that usually need customization, and will do the task required efficiently. This is definitely based on the skill of the development team, but if you know it well enough you can get good results out of it.

Nuxeo

Nuxeo
can be an ideal product for an enterprise that needs a highly-customizable
solution built on a well-supported underlying platform. It is not intended to be an out-of-the-box
solution; rather, it is a foundation for enterprises that want to be able to
adapt it to their specific use cases while still having the benefits of regular
updates and fast support.

Nuxeo

  • The platform has Lots of option to protect assets, review and share with the required people.
  • It provides a seamless transition from SharePoint which is extremely useful for our business as we have tons of data stored on SharePoint.
  • It is a powerful tool, especially for searching - since the indexing is super fast unlike other platforms.

Cons

IBM Case Manager

Nuxeo

  • Documentation is often unclear or lacking robust examples (though continues to improve over time).
  • Integration with modern enterprise identity management providers could be improved.
  • The ability to isolate data and indexes at the back end, to allow greater flexibility in very large enterprises, would be helpful.

Even though we have great experience developing, maintaining, and supporting applications developed on Case Manager, IBM is starting to kill this product in favor of IBM BPM. BPM provides more or less the same functionalities we use from Case Manager, so we started shifting sales towards the new product to benefit from continued support.

I don't know how usable Nuxeo is out of the box -- If you are wanting something out of the box, Nuxeo may not be your answer. However, one of the chief strengths of Nuxeo is how customizable it is and how much you can tweak it to capture your needs properly. Out of the box, the usability may not be great, especially if you are looking for specific things, but overall, after some development work, we have it doing many of the things we had initially planned for in a digital asset management system

Overall Nuxeo support has been solid. Response times are within agreed SLA, and their knowledge of their product enables quick resolution of issues when we have them. In a hosted model, like we have with Nuxeo, we have the benefit that Nuxeo doesn't have to figure out the underlying setup and configuration. So that helps.I have found Nuxeo to be a strong partner with regards to architecting and designing solutions which leverage their product as a component. However, for all the benefits, Nuxeo limits the number of technical contacts capable of opening tickets and escalating issues. Keep this in mind. While they have been flexible with our account, your mileage may vary.

I attended instructor-led trainings at a couple of points when I was first beginning to serve as project manager on Nuxeo projects. The first one that I attended was meant for business users and decision-makers. The second one was meant for system administrators. The first one provided a great introduction, through demos, of how Nuxeo could be adapted to very different business use cases. The second one, like many instructor-led trainings, was meant for users of a variety of skill levels, and so it could be a bit slow at times for students with a stronger technical background, but the instructor was able to include more advanced components as well.

Nuxeo University provides an ideal starting point for developers and system administrators who are new to the Nuxeo platform. So, in terms of online training for developers and administrators, the learning paths are definitely available. In terms of training for end users: keep in mind that Nuxeo is a foundation with building blocks - what you do with those building blocks is up to you and depends on your business's specific use cases. For this reason, end-user training is largely up to you because it will need to depend on how you've built and configured the system. That said, I've seen the companies that I've worked with configure the system based largely on end-user input, and so it has fit very closely with what those users wanted to do and how they wanted to do it. In cases where elements of the UI weren't fitting quite right with what users naturally wanted to do, based on their process flows, we've often found it easy enough to adapt the UI to the users, rather than using training to adapt the users to the UI.

Alternatives Considered

IBM Case Manager

IBM Case manager suites comes with bunch of underlying products, 1. Content Platform Engine, 2. IBM Content Navigator which provide rich user interface and room for customization's, 3. IBM Case Manager admin client, Case builder 4. Extensive Case Manager Rest API 5. User friendly configuration tool for configuring case manager environment and many more. And we feel this is one of the leading product that provides shared service platform.

Nuxeo

Nuxeo stacks up very well against its alternatives. It has a very good UI, migration strategy from SharePoint and documentation skills. Content management real time helps a lot. It is an ECM with DAM. Only disadvantage is that it requires a lot of support from Nuxeo to use certain features. It uses modern frameworks and technologies so that developers find their way around quickly.

Return on Investment

IBM Case Manager

  • We have been seeing organizations who implemented ICM had faster processing of their transactions.
  • We have been seeing organizations who implemented ICM found improved customer service
Anonymous | TrustRadius Reviewer

Nuxeo

  • It is an open source tool hence proves to be an excellent ROI. Content and document management are managed very well in the tool.
  • Security and role based features play a major role. Migration is a breeze. Hence it is a very positive impact.
  • Nuxeo has very rich feature set but its complex enough and so developers needs considerable time to ramp up on development on this platform .
