Informatica Data Archive (legacy) vs. Cove Data Protection vs. Quest Rapid Recovery

To manage users, go to the admin dashboard, here is a section for users. In this users section here you can see which users are configured and you have the ability to suspend a user. If you want to edit or add users, you need to go to the Organization section, then click on another user section there, which then gives you the ability to edit or add users.

Solarwinds Backup is ideal for individuals looking to keep a consistent backup of devices in their environment. We used it primarily for networking equipment. It is easy to set up, as it is one of the steps available when adding a new device to solarwinds. It is probably not an ideal product to use for long-term (1 month+) backups.

AppAssure works well for quick access to point in time backups of Windows machines without having to do a complete restore. The virtual standby function is useful as a disaster recovery or high availability solution. Recent upgrades to the product and rebranding to Rapid Recovery look promising. If your Linux machines are mission [critical] make sure your administrators test restores so they can perform them in a timely manner should the need arise.

• Backup Reporting: Email alerts, and a great, easy to read Dashboard with detailed error logs and an easy to search Solarwinds FAQ for a lot of them.
• Restores: So far I have restored files, full VMs, and VMs to other hardware, and so far it has not only been flawless, but so flexible that I can't imagine going back to any other software.

• Continuous backup with deduplication and compression
• The P to V function of the software is create. To be able to back up physical machines and create a hot spare on a virtual environment was a great selling point.
• Can back up physical and virtual (ESX or Hyper-V).

• Restore complete settings: IP settings, the setting of CPU/Memory for VMs, etc. would decrease management during a restore.
• Individual file backup: more granular settings for backup.
• Change of device name after setup: at times, computer names change after restore so it would be great to rename the device name.
• Option to recovery security key.

• Support for newer operating systems (Windows, Linux, VMware) is slow to be added. Usually takes 3-6 months from the new version being released for it to be supported.
• There is no way to automate the testing of the virtual standby which a lot of comparable products are able to do.
• The software has a backup type called "base image" which is essentially taking a full backup after an unexpected shutdown of the server. If your servers crash and they are very large, this may impact your storage requirements significantly. They do now have synthetic full backups which alleviate this issue a bit but they are not perfect either.

Cove Data Protection is very usable as it's easy to tell that it is made to not only do backup very well, but it's also easy to deploy. The agent-based deployment allows for flexible deployment options while ensuring a minimal amount of manual work is needed on the dashboard end. Recovery is also very easy, especially as it relates to one-off file recovery

We have an Italian support partner, they are been very good b7y the first moment.

All the partners are followed with a lot of attention, even the little ones.

there is a site where you can learn everything, the single parts of the product are described perfectly.

Every it specialist should evaluate it.

In the very few instances we've needed support they have been quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and dedicated to servicing our needs. That has only improved since AppAssure was bought out by Quest.

Our initial installation really was not optimum. With the help from Dell Profession Services we were able to get our implementation sized correctly and better understand how to get better deduplication results

Cove is able to cover all aspects of backup in a single package. From the same dashboard I can check servers, workstations, and even Office 365. Cove is a much better solution in terms of overall management for a company such as ours. It also provides integration options with N-Able's RMM and Take Control solutions. This allows us to offer our customers with a full service suite in a single package.

I've been using Rapid Recovery for the last 6 years and before that we had used Backup Exec, but it was a different implementation as we were still running backups to LTO3 tapes using the full/incremental backup schemes. So Rapid Recovery (AppAssure at the time) was a big change for us, backing up to disk instead with base images and changes. I would assume Backup Exec can do this as well, but haven't used it since switching. NovaBACKUP was a lower cost solution that seemed geared towards smaller and simpler configurations

• it is also fully integrated with all other AWS services
• manages the entire life cycle of the Certificates by itself, so it will reduce your work by a really big amount
• it can also be easily integrated with ELB and front-end cloud services.

• There has been NO negative impact to out ROI, but it definitely helps our bottom line. Affordable pricing and solid support make Solarwinds Backup almost a no brainer. That interprets to a growing ROI.
• The best thing to happen to our ROI is the growth brought in by very happy clients.

• AppAssure paid for itself in the first year of usage. A user deleted a major file in our SharePoint sub-site, we used the DocRetriever for SharePoint Console and were able to go back to a particular incremental date and retrieved that file.
• One of our file shares crashed and we were able to put the physical server on a virtual standby which saved us hours of imaging and restoring of data. This allowed employees to efficiently continue their daily work without much downtime.
• The offsite replication alone has put an ease on the company in case of any disaster. When Hurricane Sandy hit, we didn't have a solution in place which put us on pins and needles to say the least. But with AppAssure we will be able to have some comfort that all of our mission critical data is being offloaded onto our other sites.
