LearnUpon

LearnUpon is well-suited to an organization that would like to implement training for its employees and/or customer base. It is powerful, yet simple and intuitive while being packed full of features. They have flexible pricing plans too, you can pay per active user or by a set number of accounts.

We have special locations that work differently and I have recommended this to them. Even for locations set up differently, it still applies. Because everything can be personalized to fit the need of the user. These locations have become so adept at it that they have become admins themselves so they can implement their ideas immediately. I have yet to come across a scenario where this is not appropriate

Pros

LearnUpon

  • Customer service - Learnupon helped me to learn online learning management and become proficient in the administration of online training. They have helped me understand many facets of e-learning and helped me on a variety of issues unrelated to their own system. I know I can rely on them.
  • Automation -- Learnupon has many features which reduce my level of effort as an administrator (e.g., automated emails, automated certificates).
  • Integration with Authored Content -- Learnupon works seamlessly with my authored content and makes the integration of Tin Can easy. When I had problems (mostly due to my design error), they helped me figure out what was wrong and walked me through methods to improve the overall design of my authored content.
  • Price -- LearnUpon's scalable and efficient pricing has allowed me to be agile in my use of resources and has provided a lot of value for my investment.

  • Ease of use - this product is so easy to use! Building courses, curriculum, tracking, etc.
  • Tracking - we FINALLY have a way to track tests and completion of courses! An absolute LIFESAVER.
  • Accessibility - it seamlessly works on all platforms (iPads, computers, cell phones).

Cons

LearnUpon

  • They don't offer a "pre-requisites" feature but they are very responsive about feature requests. We signed up late last year and already 2 of my feature requests have been implemented.
  • The discussion forum feature (brand new!) is not super intuitive, yet, but I expect the support team to improve it quickly as they do everything else.
  • The notifications feature could be improved a bit, but it still functions as necessary!

  • User accounts: HotSchedules Train has each user in the system by first and last name which is a great tool but this becomes a problem when you have more than one person in your company with the same first and last name. Maybe they should identify by email instead of name so accounts of users with the same name do not merge together.
  • Copying Course or Test: Throughout the system you see the option to copy a course or a test but then the only place you can "paste" is within that same course or test. If I am creating two different courses or test that are similar it would be easy to use this function if it were designed a little better. Instead to "copy" a quiz you need to add all questions to a pool. In order to "copy" a course you would need to just create a new one from scratch.

The training necessary for the managers and trainers is minimal. The system is very intuitive and HotSchedules customer support is the best support team I have ever dealt with. They are quick to respond and keep you informed through the whole process. As for new hires, you just put them in front of a tablet or computer and they just go. Our trainees have better retention and they much prefer to go through the training on-line then having to read pages of documents.

Alternatives Considered

LearnUpon

As a relatively new user of learning management systems, my exposure to other LMS has been limited to online classes I taught at the college level and Moodle. LearnUpon offers great automation, customer service, and integration with other e-learning tools (Articulate, Vimeo, etc.). LearnUpon also gave me enough time to test out their platform and ensure that it could meet my needs.

We did not use Wisetail, but we went through several weeks of training calls when we were deciding between that LMS and Schoox. We selected Schoox because of the integration with HotSchedules, something we already used, and the ongoing ease it would provide in shifting job codes and new roles within the organization

Return on Investment

LearnUpon

  • We have not implemented it yet due to unforeseen issues with a different vendor, but we have launched two pilots and it has been very well received.
  • The expected outcome is a lot more revenue because the catalog we have in our current LMS (Absorb) is very poorly designed and ineffective.
  • Another expected outcome is that people will be excited to learn more and be better ambassadors for our company.
