Movable Ink

I think Movable Ink is a great tool if a brand is very deal/promotion heavy and aims to differentiate itself from competitors. With the 3 brands I've worked with, this was very effective and also provided our creative team with extra tools to aid in differentiating campaigns. In addition with brands that have differentiated products/services by location - it is also very effective. With brands that have retail locations or different offers in different locales it is very helpful to differentiate content by location.

Percolate

It is absolutely phenomenal for global social management. If you are wanting to provide a center hub for oversight that can assist other markets with content, approvals and idea generation, then Percolate excels in that area. Overall, it is also a very cost efficient tool given other competitors in the category. The platform is also well-built to suit an "all-in-one" workflow solution. With lean teams, Percolate can be the single go-to tool you need for planning, publishing and reporting. The built-in asset editor and approval process really takes the burden off juggling lots of different types of software and/or email.

Pros

Movable Ink

  • Clean and easy to use, user interface and short ramp up time required to implement within email service providers
  • Email use cases are helpful to take personalization in email to the next level, they can help a brands emails stand out vs. competitors in some scenarios.
  • The platform is flexible to work with various ESPs; I've personally used Movable Ink with 3 platforms and have seen no issues.

Percolate

  • The Percolate Brew feature has a human powered "learning" tool that learns about the kind of content our brand publishes. Using that, it provides tips and sources for new content. Each morning, we receive a list of content from around the world that is relevant to our brand and worth sharing with our own audience.
  • The ability to create one piece of content, and then customize it for our various channels is a real time saver. We can write an article, then easily create a shorter version for Twitter, or a more B2B focussed piece for LinkedIn.
  • Percolate helps our content creators decide when to post content - its posting schedule tool makes sure you don't overpost, but can also intelligently decide on a better time to post something based off past results.

Cons

Movable Ink

  • I think they could improve with how to provide strategic guidance to customers on applications and use cases. A lot of recommendations aren't applicable to new business models/scenarios
  • Their transition to onsite/landing page use cases was somewhat effective but we ran into some hiccups with applying the technology onsite

Percolate

  • Data is a mess. So unreliable. Takes so much time to create a concrete report.
  • There is no ability to export anything. No calendar PDFs, no data Excel sheets, nothing.
  • No paid management functionality.
  • Hated their listening tool abilities relative to other tools I've used.

Percolate is a great tool for us, because we need the approval process workflows. The training was great when we first signed on, and the interface is very user friendly. We have trained our interns to use it as well with no issues. It makes keeping up with our content calendar a breeze and we can easily see what posts have been approved and which ones are still pending at a quick glance

Rarely has a company shown this much support during implementation. This almost got to the point where it was too much hand holding. Sometimes, social teams just want the keys to the car so they can drive it themselves instead of waiting on someone to drive along with them...

Alternatives Considered

Movable Ink

Liveclicker was a competitor that I've analyzed in the past. They honestly have almost all of the same features. I think movable ink was a little stronger with their account management support

Percolate

Percolate and Falcon have many similarities and provide many of the same features, however Percolate felt a bit more robust than Falcon, although it does come with a higher price tag to match. Both platforms are excellent for content approval workflows, content scheduling, and community management. Percolate offers additional features such as an Asset Management Library and a section for creative briefs and collaboration with internal teams.

Return on Investment

Movable Ink

  • Over a 9 month period we conducted an analysis and saw a 4.6 return on ad spend with using Movable Ink in various email marketing campaigns.
  • Using their web crop feature, we also saw time savings with managing products showcased in email that were available on our website.

Percolate

  • Percolate has made it much easier to communicate between teams and has provided a return on investment in that area in particular.
  • Percolate also helps save time because you are able to schedule social media posts across channels easily.
  • It has also been an easy way to work with remote team members, which is very helpful.
