Well suited to environments where IT staff need to access multiple servers/systems at the same time, cutting down on time wasted opening multiple windows. Not so useful for users that only need to access one system remotely, as most of its functions are largely unused in that case.

While at the office, I needed documents from my home PC. I was able to use the browser at the office to access my home PC, grab the document and download it. You can also browse the web from work via your home PC, if you know what I mean. Framerates are great, so it felt natural the whole time. Also the app works on Android without any issues

Pros
Open Source
  • Easy to organize and group servers.
  • Many different protocols for remote access.
  • The ability to make use of external applications for non-directly supported protocols.
  • Servers can inherit settings from nodes above so you can set up properties once making adding new servers/devices very quick.
  • Easy to export and share config with new team members (be mindful of what you do with passwords though).

  • Easy setup, Within minutes of Installation I was up and running
  • Security - OTP 2-Factor authentication, passed security testing.
  • Performance - Though I have not fully pushed the boundary it performs as if I was sitting at my desk at home from an Android tablet in the parking lot of work.
  • Value - We all have taken a gamble when buying a product. This is one of the purchases that I am actually happy with. It is a great value for what you get.

Cons
Open Source
  • The user interface for configuration is a little basic, and not obvious for a new user to set up connections. It could be a bit clearer how to do that.
  • It does not seem to automatically update itself to new versions - though older ones work fine, you can miss out on some new functions if you don't check for updates manually.

  • long waiting time to initiate connection compare to competitors
  • total lack of keyboard translation between macOS - Windows. No keyboard configuration options at all. I don't recommend macOS users, and non-english keyboard layout users.
  • Key combination transfer doesn't work or behaves strange

I still find value in this tool. If I needed to increase computers supported, I would need to revaluate pricing concerns.

Usability
Open Source
Because it is easy to use once installing. The interface is very intuitive and there are help files available for anyone needing further set up assistance. For someone who is currently overwhelmed with managing too many things in too many places, mRemote simplifies this and puts the power back in the administrators hands with their intuitive interface.

At this point I have no issue with RemotePC's overall usability. It continues to meet my needs for what is required for me to run my business. I would like to see continued improvements with RemotePC's allowing me to continue to work remotely. Waking or starting the computer would be a plus.

Never actually needed to use support so have no idea - honestly it's simple enough to use I'd be surprised if anyone really needs support with it.

Alternatives Considered
Open Source
Every now and then I do look to see if there is any other software that can bring together multiple remote access protocols in a single interface that can contain multiple connections to remote devices with image scaling to mage use of a windowed interface and have yet to find an alternative that does all that but doesn't cost a huge amount. Don't get me wrong I would happily pay for an alternative that could provide an overall better, more convenient experience, but I have yet to find one that has made me think it's worth jumping ship from mRemoteNG.

Although TeamViewer stands as the top product for remote support, the same goes for its pricing. A small business like ours wouldn't be able to afford software like TeamViewer and we would never be using most of its features. On the other end, Splashtop is an affordable option, but its deployment is a little too complicated. RemotePC was our choice, with an easy deployment process and a pricing program that's easy to understand and within our budget.

  • I can use my Mac, which I am very familiar with and holds all my files, and also access a program integral to my business on a Windows-based computer through RemotePC.
  • I can go back and forth through Mac iOS and Windows easily.
