DR doesn't work well with PayPal subscriptions, renewal rate is very low. So, if company is using a subscription model it should have another payment system as a backup

WooCommerce

WooCommerce is a great platform to create an inexpensive if not free online store if you have the time to learn about it and configure it well. It is especially a great online store platform if you already are experienced using Wordpress since it incorporates so well into it. There are also many great plugins to help you integrate parts of your store into your other content pieces on your WordPress website.

WooCommerce

  • WooCommerce pages are easy to customize and are optimized for mobile.
  • Ability to create global add-ons for specific product categories.
  • Adding additional plugins to optimize the site is generally affordable and can usually be done without a developer.
  • There's no cost to get started.

Cons

MyCommerce

  • Definitely need Web-based API to manage subscription including changes in renewal date
  • Add more languages (especially Arabic)
  • Redirect user to PayPal directly without entering to shopping cart
Stanislav Novak | TrustRadius Reviewer

WooCommerce

  • Reliance on meta table for storing and accessing product and order data. (Coming soon)
  • Better reporting interface. (Coming soon)
  • Option to more easily choose between multi-page or single page cart/checkout.
  • Auto refresh the price totals on cart page when quantity changes using AJAX.
  • Show “-” and “+” buttons around the quantity field.
  • Show confirmation before user changes quantity to zero.

DR is good enough and it also depends what's the company goals. DR solves a lot of problems for company and it saves money in some cases.

Despite very rare glitches, more connected to an excessive number of plugins, that affect the speed of the site, we are extremely satisfied with the platform, the ability to import and export products, even though we just export them, as we have our proprietary system for updating inventories. We love the ease of upgrading, enhancing, innovating, and the freedom we have to do whatever we want, which is a plus, when you consider Shopify can take down your whole store as they please, if they think you aren't abiding to their TOS or their ever changing set of rules.

I gave it lots of points for being a simple product that instantly gives you a store. Very intuitive and simple for the client to update or implement. Loses LOTS of points when you want to do anything besides just sell stuff (coupons, etc) then it makes you pay big money for the add-ons and makes it difficult and time-intensive to develop your own.

Alternatives Considered

We are using Stripe as alternative solution for some categories of users and as a backup. Stripe has much more flexible API but less flexible template customization.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce stacks up very nicely. While there is a learning curve involved, it more than makes up for the challenge when it comes to cost. You won't find yourself spending money each month to keep your site live or pay for your ecommerce platform like you do with others. Once you have WooCommerce installed (for free) you technically do not need to pay anything unless you plan on scaling up and adding new functionality. We now use WooCommerce for all of our ecommerce sites and we have saved a lot of money over competitors.

Return on Investment

MyCommerce

  • Works well with credit card renewals
  • Strong fraud detection system (very important)
  • Doesn't work well with PayPal renewals
  • High enough fee
  • Overall DR is good in this area
Stanislav Novak | TrustRadius Reviewer

WooCommerce

  • I currently have not had a lot of ROI from using WooCommerce
  • While it is easy to set up, it doesn't handle things like marketing, emails, or promotion to build up sales
  • It can easily integrate with most email marketing, making follow-up emails easy to set up.
