I selected Scratchpad because the depth of integration within Salesforce is very useful; I don't have to use a separate application than what I'm already using, Scratchpad is imbued within my Chrome and SFDC instances. Their free capabilities don't block you from viewing notes …

Frankly, if I can do something in Scratchpad instead of Salesforce, I prefer Scratchpad because it's faster, easier, simpler, with a much more readable and useable interface. Salesforce has been getting requests to allow font size modification for over a decade and hasn't even done that. That's what sent me looking for something like Scratchpad. I sort of view it as a much more user-friendly UI to layover SF. It's faster and less frustrating than SF for frequent daily activities. It's great for creating notes and tracking tasks at a basic level in a much more user friendly environment than Salesforce. But it interacts w/ SF, which is great!

If your role is primarily communicating with employees within your own organization, then this software might not be as useful to you. For those in sales, account management, or who needs to know if your recipient has seen your emails/content, this is a useful tool.

Cons
Scratchpad, Inc.
  • When pulling in Salesforce reports, it doesn't have full ability to do grouping/sorting.
  • When looking at pipeline view there's not an ability to expand the default view to see more than 5 people per group.
  • It'd be nice if comments would go as a task rather than a buzz.

  • Version control is an issue. Would be nice to go back to previous versions of a file.
  • The in-app viewing experience feels a little rigid. Prefer to download the files before viewing.
  • The main landing page is a little more cluttered than I would like.

I have not been involved with support from Showpad so I am not entirely sure. However, we have received some emails from our help desk about an outage and it seems like it didn't last very long so I would say that it was pretty effective support to that extent.

Alternatives Considered
Scratchpad, Inc.
It doesn't. Scratchpad is more agile and much easier to use as a seller managing a large patch with lots of opportunities. SAP is robust but is far more complicated and involves a lot more inputs to get the same outputs that you can get with Scratchpad in half the time and effort.

The only option our company used was cloud-based file-sharing services (Box, Dropbox, etc) and emails like Outlook or Gmail. Both options make it hard for version control and for ease of navigation. Generally, end-users had an easier time finding content on Showpad.
