Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ActivTrak to track productivity of our teams. We also use it to ensure that during work from home days, our employees are working during the proper times. It also helps flag when work computers are being used for non-work purposes.

Pros

Easily provides real time tracking of employee computers
Tracks the amount of usage per application. This helps us determine that applications value.
Host monthly training sessions and showcases new updates. Makes it easy to stay informed.

Cons

Simplification of labels - it can be difficult to navigate due labels having confusing names.
I have teams in two time zones and I wish it was easier to navigate between the two.
It would be nice to have different logins for team managers that just show them their team vs the entire org.

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall, I recommend ActivTrak. I think the pricing is very reasonable for all that you get. I like the monthly calls, they are well done and informative. I think there is a bit of a learning curve, due to so many tabs and confusing names for things. If it was a bit easier to navigate I'd recommend them more.

Track activity of employees on work computer, including time spent on productive and unproductive work. It helps the company ensure that employees are spending the required effort and doing productive work while working from home. It allows us to continue to offer work from home option to all our employees.

Watching staff to ensure they're active while working from home and not using websites that malicious. We also aim to track if sensitive data is being mishandled.

Every 2 months we have to delete users who aren't real users because someone logs into a local account or be faced to buy an annual seat. We also are forced to delete users on a short timeframe or face penalty of needing to buy an annual seat when someone logs into a local account.

AtivTrak has been a great addition to our company. We can successfully track the information we need. It is as easy as deploying the client to users' computers, and their computers appear in the admin console. This has allowed us to have a successful remote work experience.

Pros

I created an Intune deployment for installing agents based on group membership. All I do is add users to this group. After the software is installed, they show up in ActivTrak very easily!
I can uninstall the agents through the admin console.
I can add users to DO NOT TRACK. If I want to suspend tracking for some time, then remove them from there when I am ready to track again, without going through the agent reinstallation process.

Cons

Agents take too long to be uninstalled.

ActivTrak helps us understand our resource usage across our team and where we can optimize our team. It gives us aircover of data to see if there are team members that need help in their bandwidth / resource management. Managers use it to better understand their team and needs. Its not meant to replace good management but an auxiliary tool to enhance their management capabilities

Pros

Tracking the teams active time on their computers
Providing the data to managers to see if there is anything to double click into. If an employee is underperforming and ActivTrak gives us data that shows bandwidth issues, we can address that with the employee quickly

Cons

often times an employee questions the validity of the data or the categories of Active or Inactive. More clarity around how the monitoring works would be helpful
The name of the program that is being installed should be more vague. We've had employees panic and start researching what is being installed. More discrete branding would be helpful

It's great for remote employees where the manager cannot physically see their team or employee, especially in this new world of AI, to understand how much effort they are putting into their output/deliverables. If someone is working in office, its probably less useful since they can physically be seen working.

We mainly use this to determine if workers are productive or not. It has helped significantly identifying the "Houdini workers" who appear to be busy but are either playing games or doing personal tasks during work hours. The system is very easy to use.

This is our go to product and has been for several years now. This has helped our organization determine which users are working and which ones are not. Several times it has identified that an employee who was suspected of doing personal items was indeed doing work related tasks and was struggling. It has been very easy to set up and maintain all our users information and device activity since day one. We have some employees who struggle to stay on task, and others who are remote, and we lack clarity on how productive they are toward goals. ActivTrak provides highly relevant insights and enables us to measure individual performance against the averages for someone in their position, based on their peers at the company. This means we have enough information to help implement corrective action or weed out employees who just refuse to dedicate their work time to doing actual work.

Pros

Track total time spent on productive tasks.
Compare productivity and at-computer time between employees.
Provide reporting that can be used for corrective action plans and dismissals.

Cons

Better categorization of what is productive vs non-productive.
Adaptive measurements, such as Slack in a call being considered productive, but Slack in a DM session beyond X minutes at a time is non-productive.

Likelihood to Recommend

ActivTrak is well-suited for hybrid companies with employees working both onsite and remotely, allowing you to compare productivity in different locations. It is also highly helpful when you need to discipline or dismiss an employee and need concrete data showing a lack of productivity beyond missed deadlines.
