Overall Satisfaction with ActivTrak

We mainly utilize ActivTrak to ensure our remote employees are working, signing in on time, and are not visiting websites or doing things that they should not be doing. It tends to be a periodic review, maybe weekly, and we don't utilize half of the features available to us just given the scope of our business. It has been a helpful tool though, and we have course-corrected for multi individuals due to it.

Pros

  • Tracking site visits
  • Clear visual on work-day activity
  • Detailed information

Cons

  • Multiple clicks/lack of being able to save views/reports
  • Not an intuitive interface
  • Live views are clunky and not useful really
  • Let somebody go that was not working much
  • Used a PIP to course correct a struggling employee
  • Saw somebody was visiting job postings on their work computer
  • Monthly graphic of employee activity
  • Ability to see passive vs active activity
  • Comparison to other employees for same time frame
We don't really use ActivTrak much for it's productivity features, I would say it's more of a situation where when we see people are struggling or not engaged, or activity metrics we track on our own are low, then we will go to ActivTrak to try and better understand the story, were they passive all day, were they offline all day, do they take extended breaks in the work day, and more. We are more reactive users than proactive.
We are primarily a remote company, and should probably be looking at who is working more, however some folks use their laptops after hours, or to do some different things, so it makes it hard to know who is actually working working and who is just using it for something else. We don't workload balance off ActivTrak data alone, or at all really.
We don't really use ActivTrak for this, so I don't want to speak much to it. Maybe it is something we should explore more in the future.
Since I started as the manager a year ago, we have only ever had ActivTrak.

Would you buy ActivTrak again?

Yes

ActivTrak is useful to help keep track of your employees, and set up flags where they may occasionally go awry. I find the number of features to be adequate for monitoring our business, but would be better served if I spent time tailoring it for our unique needs. I don't think ActivTrak is great for live-views.
