Superb value from a great solution

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cision PRWeb is used to identify, research, and contact media across America. It is used to media release distribution, pitching, and importantly, identifying media to curate relationships with. It solves my problem of spending hours trawling through social media to identify media outlets and reporters, and then find their contact details. It also allows me to measure my outreach success and gives me key data insights to determine who has opened and read my communication. I cannot operate my consultancy without Cision PRWeb!

Pros

  • Identification of key and relevant media as a result of inputting key parameters
  • Cision PRWeb provides actionable insights into media engagement
  • Cision PRWeb provides a quick and easy platform on which to build and grow relationships with the media
  • Cision PRWeb facilitates the entry into new vertical media markets.

Cons

  • Increasing the volume of media that can receive communication would help - going from 5,000 to 7,500 or 10,000 would be a massive help.
  • Providing a social media platform in which to send out either X posts, LinkedIn, and Facebook posts to media as an alternative communication would help
  • Increasing the number of podcasters and there contact details would help.

Likelihood to Recommend

The platform has phenomenal capabilities and provides actionable intelligence which is vital for planning, executing, and reviewing/measuring all actions. It also enables the generation of detailed client reports. The platform is well suited for consultants looking to work withs tartups, midmarket and enterprise level companies and delivers results that add significant value.

Dont waste your time or money. There are better options.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used Cision PRWeb in some form or fashion over the years for one primary function: wire distribution of press releases. We often have clients who make announcements where it's necessary to use such a service in order to maximize distribution and reach. There are a few premium services, several sub-premium, and a lot of other ones that compete for this (lucrative) business.

Pros

  • General wire distribution of press releases
  • Industry targeting
  • A decent user interface

Cons

  • Pricing is an ongoing issue with Cision. All their services are proudly expensive when evaluated alongside competitors.
  • It's strange, but, in my opinion, with each successive iteration of its software, Cision makes its products less and less user-friendly. There was a time at which Cision PRWeb was the gold standard. It almost feels deliberate that it progressively gets worse.
  • In my experience, customer service tends to lack empathy.

Likelihood to Recommend

Wire press release distribution is often a luxury purchase, especially at the price point. In my experience Cision acts as if it's destined to win everyone's business just because of its name. Too often we've found ourselves being turned off by the arrogance and taking our business (and our clients' business) to alternative companies that are happy to have us.

Cision PRWeb review

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cision PRWeb primarily as a media monitoring platform that lets us know when our organization or employees are mentioned online, on TV, on a podcast, or on the radio. We also use Cision PRWeb for sending out press releases and creating media lists for those based on a variety of criteria.

Pros

  • Covers a wide range of publications
  • Emails receive high open rates
  • Keeps relevant data on media members

Cons

  • Difficult to manually import and assign press list contacts
  • TVEyes partnership only provides low-quality video clips
  • General customer support team is incompetent and slow to respond

Likelihood to Recommend

Cision PRWeb is a wonderful tool for our team of communications professionals. We typically include media mentions over a given time period in our internal reporting, and appreciate the quick notifications whenever we are mentioned somewhere. It is also much quicker than manually curating media lists when you are in a hurry to send a press release. The platform allows you to integrate your social media channels, but I would not use it to pull definitive cross-channel reports on social media performance.

A simple and reliable way to deliver national news.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Cision PRWeb to distribute national press releases and connect with media across the country. We are a small college in a mid-size market and the network of media contacts that Cision PRWeb provides allows us to cast a wide net and deliver our national newsworthy stories to publications that we would not normally have access to. The cost per release is reasonable and the network is unmatched.

Pros

  • Media Contact Database.
  • Secure Press Release Delivery.
  • Sorting and identifying industry specific publications.

Cons

  • Mid sized market media database needs more frequent updating.
  • Would like to send embargoed press releases without the fear of early publishing.
  • More economical press release packages available.

Likelihood to Recommend

We have run several national PR campaigns over the past couple of years and Cision PRWeb makes it easy to distribute the releases and publications pick them up with is a testament to Cision's industry trust credibility. With just a few clicks, the release is set up and ready to deliver at a time of our choice.

Love that you can add in visuals ...

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cision PRWeb to send out news releases for clients. We've found that the software is very easy to use and once someone is trained they can do it easily by themselves. Overall, we like that this platform allows you to upload photos and other visuals to help make the press release more compelling.

Pros

  • Press release distribution.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Easy to use.

Cons

  • Inputting links.
  • Speed for release to go live.
  • Allow videos.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cision PRWeb is great for companies that are looking to get out news and control the messaging. It also helps boost SEO. We don't see reporters using Cision PRWeb as a press release or news story source very often, so as long as the client knows that, it works well.

Cision is a great media contact database and a solid option for media tracking.

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

To track media hits for our clients, as well as finding specific contacts for journalists and producers.

Pros

  • In terms of finding specific contacts, it does a good job.
  • It finds mainstream media hits well.

Cons

  • One issue we ran into with media tracking was that when it came to smaller or more niche media, it had a hard time tracking hits from those outlets for our clients.
  • Building larger media lists was time consuming and cumbersome.

Likelihood to Recommend

For finding media contacts it was really good. For building larger lists, it wasn't as effective (within their platform). For exporting large lists (for example, looking for specific media contacts in Dallas), that was useful and effective. I would always export those larger lists into Google Sheets and then edit from there -- this was much faster than editing lists within the platform.

For tracking media hits, it honestly wasn't much more effective for us than using Google Alerts.

PRWeb - An Affordable Newswire Option for Most Startups

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I don't use PRWeb for my business, but instead as needed for my clients. It is good for when a client wants to post press releases on the wire for various news announcements. It is a nice meeting of convenience and a smart price point for no-frills news announcements - when you don't need to add pics, graphics, or need to reach specialty news wires.

Pros

  • It provides a newswire option at a very reasonable price.
  • The pricing is in a sweet spot for many startups who would want to use it.
  • It hits up all of the key media outlets that you would expect a wire service to be connected to.

Cons

  • Would be nice if they didn't charge extra for a release that has is submitted the day before it is scheduled to be posted.
  • The option to upload a word document instead of copy and pasting all release content into a form would be nice addition.
  • Uploading social media links a representative of a client is not so easy.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think it is best suited for smaller companies or startups who want to post a news announcement to the wire without breaking the bank. It is also good for SEO purposes. As mentioned, if you want a no-frills press release/wire solution, PR Web checks off a lot of boxes.

Cision is a must for anyone doing digital PR

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cision is used by the Digital PR arm of our organization. Cision is used to prospect and pitch media contacts in an effort to get our content and our client's content shared. Cision is critical to our media amplification efforts and has allowed our organization to scale the number of qualified contacts we pitch for each campaign we create and promote.

Pros

  • Media prospecting
  • Media reach
  • Monitoring

Cons

  • Template creation
  • Media Follow ups
  • Customer service

Likelihood to Recommend

The Cision PRWeb media database is an industry leader. I can't imagine being able to find as many qualified contacts with any other service. Their database is well maintained and easy to use. Sending emails through the Cision platform is not my favorite aspect of Cision PRWeb. Many competing services are more user-friendly. I've sent feedback on improvements I've like to see made and the responses from the customer service team are not prompt.

Poor experience with PRWeb

Rating: 1 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use PRWeb to announce exciting news pertinent to our community.

Pros

  • I am not pleased with the service.

Cons

  • We pay a great deal of money for the service and twice they have delayed releases to question our organization's information accuracy. Most recently, they questioned a grant receipt amount; they previously posted with no issue 2 years prior. I met their demand and had the information verified. Hours later they did not send the release delaying our reach impact. No reason why.

Likelihood to Recommend

The service is suited for companies that have the cash to waste and a large staff to meet their requests and demands before they will send releases a business pays for.

PRWeb gets the job done when you can't house a PR team!

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

PRWeb is used by our Marketing Department to push out press releases and important news. We use it to reach outside of our organization, and we do not have a PR team here. We don't have time to call local stations and try to pursue media, so this is the best way for us to get our information out. It is quick and efficient, but not as meaningful as being featured on local news.

Pros

  • Broadens our reach.
  • Relatively quick and streamlined.
  • We can get decent data back.

Cons

  • Relatively expensive.
  • There's a good chance our story will be hard to find.
  • Not very meaningful at times.

Likelihood to Recommend

It depends. If you don't have a PR team or the resources to reach out to local media, this is a solid way to achieve those goals. If you can house a PR team and have them make meaningful connections locally, that is way better than using this outlet.
