Overall Satisfaction with Cision PRWeb

We have used Cision PRWeb in some form or fashion over the years for one primary function: wire distribution of press releases. We often have clients who make announcements where it's necessary to use such a service in order to maximize distribution and reach. There are a few premium services, several sub-premium, and a lot of other ones that compete for this (lucrative) business.

Pros

  • General wire distribution of press releases
  • Industry targeting
  • A decent user interface

Cons

  • Pricing is an ongoing issue with Cision. All their services are proudly expensive when evaluated alongside competitors.
  • It's strange, but, in my opinion, with each successive iteration of its software, Cision makes its products less and less user-friendly. There was a time at which Cision PRWeb was the gold standard. It almost feels deliberate that it progressively gets worse.
  • In my experience, customer service tends to lack empathy.
  • Ultimately, Cision PRWeb is about distributing a press release over the wire. It gets that done just fine.
  • The real ROI test comes in the form of the price tag, since wire distributions are effectively all the same (don't let anyone tell you they aren't). The more it costs, the lower the ROI.
Cision appears to go out of its way to make its user interfaces terrible. Like, literally every product they offer was anywhere from slightly better to FAR better in earlier iterations. No current iteration of any Cision product is the best iteration. The UX for Cision PRWeb is no different.
Cision PRWeb is a cheaper option among Business Wire and PR Newswire, but the ultimate outcome of what we pay them for (press release distributions) is essentially the same. That said, PR Newswire is also owned by Cision, so it suffers from the same bad user experience. I've also used EIN Presswire and eReleases (a PR Newswire reseller), both of which were not on the list of comparable products. For my money, eReleases is the single best option because of two things: spectacularly affordable price point, and awesome customer service.

Do you think Cision PRWeb delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Cision PRWeb's feature set?

Yes

Did Cision PRWeb live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Cision PRWeb go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cision PRWeb again?

No

Wire press release distribution is often a luxury purchase, especially at the price point. In my experience Cision acts as if it's destined to win everyone's business just because of its name. Too often we've found ourselves being turned off by the arrogance and taking our business (and our clients' business) to alternative companies that are happy to have us.
