What is Dasera?

Dasera is a data security platform that aims to automate data security and governance controls, according to Dasera, Inc. It is designed to help organizations keep their data safe, compliant, and accessible, enabling better and faster decision-making. Dasera is intended for companies of all sizes, from small businesses to large enterprises. The product is said to be utilized by various professionals, including data security teams, compliance officers, privacy officers, data governance professionals, and IT professionals across industries such as financial services, healthcare, technology, retail, and manufacturing.

Key Features

Continuous Data Governance: According to Dasera, the product aims to reduce risk by continuously enforcing data governance policies. It automatically monitors infrastructure context, including new cloud data stores, misconfigurations, and new data fields. Data context is generated through automated data classification and tagging. User context is monitored via automated employee directory integration, permission analysis, and proprietary SQL analysis. Dasera claims that security and compliance policies can be encoded with its no-code policy editor.

More Efficient Data Security & Compliance: Dasera claims to save time by reducing the need for manual audits and cross-functional collaboration. It aims to keep a real-time inventory of data stores and data fields, eliminating the need for manual audits. Data owners are alerted to new fields and can supervise classification and tagging. The security team can enforce security policies without needing data context, while the privacy and compliance team can ensure privacy and compliance without needing data context. Custom workflows can be created to notify appropriate team members of security alerts, potential privacy violations, and compliance issues.

Broader Access to More Data: Dasera is said to allow organizations to grant broader access to more data, enabling better and faster decisions and improved business value. The product is designed to grant more access while reducing risk. Dasera claims to be agentless, meaning there is no invasive software on employee machines. Passive deployment is said not to affect data store scalability, reliability, and throughput. According to the vendor, there is no impact on employee productivity due to false positives. Lightweight deployment and automatic monitoring of security and compliance policies enable data governance teams to grant more access while reducing risk.

Compatibility Across Any Data and Security Infrastructure: Dasera is claimed to work on major public clouds, including AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. It supports multiple deployment models, allowing it to be deployed as SaaS or as a virtual machine within the organization's VPC. The product is compatible with various data stores, such as Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Postgres, MySQL, Athena, and more. Dasera is said to be agnostic to data use interface and works with all BI tools, SQL command lines, and SQL edits. It can consume application query logs if database query logs aren't available. Dasera integrates with SSO, including Google Workspace and any SAML IdP. Automated notifications can be sent through Slack, Pager Duty, SNS, Google Pub/Sub, and email. Dasera claims that all alerts can be sent to SIEM/SOAR for analysis and action.
